I am looking at adding a sub to my home theater. I currently have the base routed through my main speakers (Pioneer HPM-60's - http://www.hifiengine.com/library/pioneer/hpm-60.shtml) and I would eventually like to replace those but need to get a sub first then in time will replace the mains (simply due to financial constraints).

These are the subs I am looking at...

JBL Studio SUB150P
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882665157

BIC America Eviction RTR-EV1200 12"
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882007034

Polk Audio PSW Series PSW505 12"
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290130

None of these are all that expensive and fit into my budget as I am looking to spend under 400 and these are all well under that. They all have good reviews but I am not an audiophile by ANY means so and advice you all could give me would be great. If these really aren't all that, is there a better one you would recommend? Thanks!!!

I've got a BIC F12 and love it.($200) Another option is Klipsch RW-12D that goes on sale a newegg for ~$300 quite often. Only one you have listed I have any knowledge of is the Polk which is a solid sub for the money.

For a movie and gaming use I'd do the F12 but for music I'd do the Klipsch.

I do use it for music, but it is mostly used to bluray movies and gaming; so with that in mind, would the bic be better as it is more inexpensive also?

Klipsch is one I was looking at to. Is it work the extra 100?

it's not up to us if it's worth $100 extra, that's really only up to you to decide. i can just attest that it's a great sub for the price. i've watched movies and listened to music with it and it's good.

I guess what I meant was, well this one produce more bass, crisper bass, then the alternatives. I recognize these are all budget subs, but would still like to get the best for my money.

The Klipsch will give you tighter more accurate bass than the F12. The F12 will give you bigger "booms" for lack of a better term in movies and games. The tighter and more accurate nature of the Klipsch makes it much better for music but won't hit as hard in explosions and the like in other uses.

I disagree over getting the Klipsch over the BIC. I own a complete BIC set up and have owned Klipsch and the BIC is one bad mother fu.....SHUT YO MOUTH.

You can get it under $200 shipped

http://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-F1...ywords=BIC+F12

And 383 comments will say that the F12 is a damn good sub.

Now if you want one bad ass mother of a sub that hits hard and clean, get the one I own, well worth the extra money IMO

http://www.amazon.com/BIC-PL-200-Aco...ference+RW-12d

I have it and it is soooooooo bad ass over any other sub I have ever owned and I have owned a lot of them over the 20+ years I been into HT. You just will not be disappointed.

But if you cant afford the PL200, then for sure get the F12, BIC America makes some damn good stuff or I wouldnt own it or tell people to get it. I am going to get the F12 myself when I can to add a 2nd sub to my system.

and yeah don't be tricked by the "retail price" of the klipsch sub on newegg - it's nowhere NEAR a $1000 sub.

I'd definitely get the Klipsch over the BIC.
Just depends on what you are using it for. The BIC hits harder plain and simple. For special effect type things it's the better sub. For music where accuracy more than booming is desired the Klipsch is superior. Both are better at different uses, I wouldn't say either is the "better" sub. Get what better suites your usage.

Nope, it's a $300 sub. Often less than that on a good sale.

a man a smoother bass sound. I pulled the trigger on the F12. It sounds like it is better for movies and games which is the bulk of use. Thanks for all of the help everyone!

I simply can't believe someone who has owned Klipsch would consider the BIC a better sub (much less a complete BIC setup over a Klipsch R setup).
If you're budget minded and need something cheap, BIC is the way to go, they sound OK and work well.
They've become more expensive over the years due to people praising them for being great budget speakers, and they're trying to move into the non-budget segment.
In my tests: Paradigm PW2200>RW12>BIC PL200>BIC F12>HTIB Subs>Logitech computer speakers

Also my set up did not come in a box, I put it together. Now granted I dont own the F12 but went right for the juggler and got the more powerful PL200 sub when I pieced my set up together, but I plan on adding a 2nd sub to my system and the F12 is going to be it. After owning a few Klipsch subs, and going through all the amp troubles with my old promedia 5.1, I was looking for the best bang for my buck, ones where the amp wont give me trouble down the line, a 8 year warranty parts AND labor, and BIC speakers, especially the Acoustech line, has won me over hands down and will never look back. 300+ reviews on Amazon for the F12, and several on the AVS forum will say as I say that for the price, with BIC, you will get your money worth and then some. So Im not the only one, or talking out my ass, because I have owned both brands, did major reading up on the BIC America line, before I put out over $1000 of my hard earned money, and I can say that with use, and over 3 years of it, they still sound like the day I got them, and can push them harder then any other brand I have owned, not just Klipsch.

Also can you show me the tests you have done? Id like to read it considering you have done side by side tests of all those subs. Should be an interesting read.

So you do realize that the first article "non-bias"review is not even comparing the same subs that this post is asking about? Two completely different subs.

Why don't you post some actual AVS post that talk about both of them?

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1377574/bic-f12-vs-klipsch-rw-12d

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1441541/bic-12-vs-rw-12d

"The Klipsch subs have better extension at both ends of the frequency spectrum and check out the differences in the output of the subs amplifiers. BIC uses an amplifier that's 150w RMS with a peak of 475w where-as the Klipsch, RW-12d subs use an amplifier that is rated 350w RMS with peaks of 825w. It's your choice which sub amplifier you want in your system. Are you about a hundred bucks or are you about twice as much power for a hundred bucks?"

"The Klipsch is in a completely different league than the Bic. go with the Klipsch if you can afford it"

"I have both the F12 and RW12. I like them both but the Klipsch is worth the extra $100."

"The Klipsch RW-12d is far superior to the BIC F12. There is no comparison. Now the BIC pl-200 is another story."

I see nothing but the complete opposite on AVSForums. There are a bunch of threads on this subject and it's almost unanimous that the RW-12D is superior.

hi everyone, I have an additional question. I'd really like my system to sound it's best so would two mid level subs best one one good sub? here's an example:

two Dayton 1200's
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-629

or 1 Klipsch RW-12D
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000UV...pi=SL500_SS115

or BIC PL200
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001W3...pi=SL500_SS115

thanks!

No, stick to a single sub. Getting two subs to work together is typically more difficult than you would think.

I am thinking of an 18" Dayton sub build next year. DIY sound group has a good 18" box, get a Berhinger inuke and you are all set.

The boxes seem to only need good wood glue, perhaps not even clamps from what I have read.
