Sub par performance on hp xw8200 what might be wrong?

so i bought an hp xw8200 workstation dual intel xeon 3.4ghz cpu's, 4gb of ram and a 256mb nvidia quadro fx3400. I've installed windows xp 64bit edition with all updates and all drivers should be up to date. I try benchmarking it in 3dmark06 and i barely get 10fps. My score was 2166. 10fps seems really low. Should i turn on hyperthreading in the bios? Any suggestions on how i can get more performance out of this. Mostly likely i will be using this machine for low end video rendering.

The first problem i see is the use of XP64. Next is your judging the performance of a workstation card on a gaming benchmark. The workstation card isn't made to be a performer in games. Its made to create the rederings for the game. So its performance may not be waht you are exspecting. Now run it threw a Photoshop benchmark and the nembers will tell a different story. Also keep in mind the benchmark is only using one of the CPUs. The other is just sitting idle since the benchmarking program doesn't know how to utilize the additional CPU.

Well, let's see, where to start...

First, you're running an old workstation based on two ancient Netburst Pentium 4 processors. With a Quadro card that's the equivalent of a Geforce 6800. So frankly I'm surprised you even got a 2166 in 3DM06.

If it's not a gaming machine, don't worry about it. For video work it should be fine, especially with 4GB RAM.

If you want to game on it, sell that Quadro card (eBay it - should be worth a bit of cash) and drop in a faster gaming card, perhaps a 4670 or 4830 (assuming the motherboard is PCIe not AGP). Still not going to be great but should handle older games fine.
