And the recalls continue this year:
http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/subaru-recalls-660k-vehicles-brake-line-rust-24409412

Subaru is recalling more than 660,000 cars and SUVs because the brake lines can rust and leak fluid, and that can mean it will take longer to stop the vehicles.

For about half the vehicles, it's the second recall for the same problem.

Affected are 2005 through 2009 Legacy and Outback, the 2008 through 2014 Impreza and the 2009 through 2013 Forester.

I dont get regional recalls. Are they betting on cars from warm areas never going up to places that salt roads?

Seams like a way to cheap out on safety.

Yeah I have one of the "unaffected" cars in Kansas, right next to a recalled state, Missouri. I know they use salt on our roads (along with plenty of sand and gravel to be sure that my paint gets sandblasted too. We wouldn't want part of the car being left out, now, would we?) Guess I just get to cross my fingers and hope my brake lines don't rust.

That is pretty crappy that they don't do a nationwide recall and be done with it. Seems like if people not affected by the recall do have lines that get rusted out, there will be a significant lawsuit.

My wife brought a 1995 impreza beater into the marriage. Yes, at that point it was a full on beater, but I have repaired some of the strangest rust issues on that car.

Two of the hard lines in on the steering rack, rusted through. These lines just went from one end of the rack to the other and with the corrosion just were toast. Same for one of the gas lines, right were it penetrated the rear floor, toast.

The crazy thin is the body undercarriage was still totally solid. I blame Fujitsu heavy industries suppliers.

This. Just replace/fix the part(s) and be done with it.....

<-----Says one who will have to get their car looked at for this recall...:/

I need to clarify, this isn't unique to Subaru, others do this stupid shit as well. It makes no sense. Subaru is just the latest company doing this.

Its especially annoying with them right now because they are running the 'They lived ad'.

Well they died, because they came from CA to salt country and their brakes rusted through.

Not sure why Utah is not included in the list of states qualified for this recall... My friend's Subaru is on the recall list and I hope he can convince the dealer to do the recall.

I could have sworn they did this last year too. For a similar range of cars and in certain states. BRB, looking it up.

EDIT: Looks like the same thing, just the actual recall now.

http://www.edmunds.com/car-news/200...legacy-recalled-for-brake-line-corrosion.html

Subaru is recalling an estimated 215,000 2005-'09 Subaru Outback and Legacy vehicles in cold-weather states for brake line corrosion, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The problem may result in longer distances being required to slow or stop the vehicle, said federal safety regulators.
Subaru has not announced a date for the recall.
