<< Either that or I've just driven plenty of quality cars and the Subaru quality is evident to me. I used to have an Audi A4 2.8 Quattro so I know what refinement is about. People buying these WRXs think they're buying a 1/4 mile car and they just aren't up to the task. You are showing your ignorance by saying a Camaro cannot handle. A LS1 camaro would rip a WRX to shreds on just about any road course. Almost all performance cars are rear wheel drive, find me a Ferrari or Corvette with AWD. Can't do it can you. They seem to do pretty well on a track. Grow some balls and stop being a fanboy. >>

How much does a brand new LS1 cost?

I can't find a ferrari or corvette with AWD - I can however find both porsche and lamborghinis with it...hmm.

As originally stated this is flame bait. You're just a dumbass who, lets not forget, said that "It feels like a 15,000 dollar car "
>>

You can get a brand new Z28 for less than 22,000. Yes, porsche and lamborghini make AWD models but the majority of capable sports cars are not AWD and do not need it. The WRX does feel like a cheap car and you're stupid if you cannot realize this. Cognative dissonance I guess.

I have a 1990 Subaru Legacy with 179,000 miles on it. It is hands down the most reliable car I have ever owned and cost me all of 13k brand new.

AWD doesn't suck. I would buy a one year old A4 1.8T over a new WRX anyday.

The obvious answer to this is, he didn't. I sincerely doubt he has ever driven a WRX either, and if he has a car at all it is probably a '94 Cavalier or something along those lines. Trolls are trolls are trolls.

Looks to me like you came here specifically to knock certain cars and not promote one. I'm sure you would have gotten more approval had you just written a thread about a car you like than one about a car you didn't like (especially when your information is all BS).

I will agree with WickedMotorcar on this, I too would rather have an older Audi A4 1.8t over a WRX. I don't know about you, but I HATE cheap stuff and the interior of the WRX is CHEAP. You may like the looks, you may like the speed, but I spend 99% of my time with my car INSIDE it and I don't like subpar materials and finish (i.e. Nissan Altima; another fast car with a cheap interior).

I simply prefer the quality, well honed interior (Audi makes the best interiors in the biz), chassis, engine, and look of the Audi A4 (compared to the bug-eyed monstrosity that is WRX). And unlike the A4, the WRX is a fad car plain and simple. Beetle, PT Cruiser, WRX. After the Lancer comes out (along with the 350Z and RX8), you guys will be trashing the WRX.

Ha, you first want to compare the LS1 to the WRX, then when asked about pricing, you quote the price of a Z28. Isn't that bait and switch?

I think we've all well established that a good deal of Japanese brands are made in the US and American cars are made in Mexico, or atleast their parts are...

american cars are not the only ones being made in mexico

nissan sentra is made in mexico (i dunno about the other models)
VW jetta is made in mexico ( i think the golf and gti are too but not the passat)

their are more but not off the top of my head

The Lancer is out, but not the EVO that I want. Anyway, Lancer would be in the same class as WRX and probably with CHEAP interiors as well. Now I've never driven the current Lancer so don't quote me as I'm just harboring a guess.

I find it funny that people here seem to like comparing the WRX with the pony cars... The WRX is not meant to be a straight line racer, if it was, it wouldn't have AWD. The WRX was made to be able to handle awesomely off the road, or on the road in adverse conditions. Let's see how your pony cars handle in a Chicago winter. One of the major downfalls of the WRX are the crappy ass all-season tires(RE92s) they put on it. If you put a set of real(sticky) summer tires on the car, it can do amazing things in an auto-cross. The car is made to do everything, and just happens to have a quick 0-60 and good "Stock" quarter mile times. I put a $30 manual boost controller in my WRX and got high 13's in the quarter mile with it. I have been to the dragstrip, and have whomped on mustangs and comaros, all in my 4 door mid-size family car. Here are a list of sports I have done with my WRX all in stock form(except the MBC):

-Auto-x
-Rally-cross
-TSD Rally
-DragStrip
-Racecourse driving(speeds in excess of 110 MPH on the course)

I plan on ice-racing as soon as I get a free-weekend. Why get a pony car that has limited real-wheel drive when you could have the versitility of AWD, and be able to do any kind of racing you want without modifing the car at all? Have fun fish-tailing around in your pony cars.

Haha ... boxster engine. Yeah, the boxster has a boxster engine. The WRX has a BOXER engine.

hopefully you didn't see the car magazine article where they rated the WRX better than the $10k more BMW 330XI, another awd sports sedan. what about that for an overpriced tin can?

A real driver can handle a rear wheel drive vehicle. Part of the fun is swinging the rear out when you want to.

Try autocrossing an LS1 Camaro against a WRX, or racing in less-then-perfect conditions and tell me whether the WRX is just a "0-60 kinda car."

i would certainly take a LS1 Camaro over a WRX anyday

so what a WRX can rally better than a camaro. the camaro wasnt made to rally it was made to be superior on the track and on the drag strip which it does very well considering the price.

if i was in a LS1 camaro and a WRX pulled up beside me, i wouldnt be nervous, hell i could probably miss 3rd gear and still beat it.

WRX are nice cars but is nowhere close in the preformance aspect of the LS1

First of all, that was a stupid article to begin with. The S4, 330Xi and WRX do not all compete in the same space.

330xi <--> Audi A4
Audi S4 <--> M3 (well, at least it was direct competitor for the E36 M3)
WRX <--> sub $30,000 sports cars

I drove the WRX at the Simmons-Rockwell Subaru dealer in Pennsylvania. I own a 12 second 2000 Camaro SS, no real mods either. I used to own a '96 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro. My old man drives a '96 vette and has had 3 BMWs and a Mercedes in the past. I think you are the troll.

How do you define nowhere close? I would say the WRX definately has an advantage in "overall" performance because of it's AWD and rally-bred heritage. How much is an LS1?

I bet you were waiting to get in that term weren't you? Just finished a first year psych course? Congrats.

I've spent more time in a subaru than you. Yes their interiors are not as good as an audi interior. But who cares. THey are cheaper. So what if you'd rather have a used A4 1.8T. If we start introducing used cars into the picture the argument becomes even stupider than it already is.

I shan't let you forget that you said it is along the lines of a $15,000 car. That would put it smack in the middle of the pack with cavalier, bottom of the line sentras, Golf GLs. Very intelligent conclusion you came to there!

Obviously the Subie is no Audi in terms of its interior. In all fairness, though, he is comparing the WRX to a Camaro, whose interior fit and finish make the WRX look like a Mercedes Maybach.

True, the interior isn't great. But if you want a great interior you can throw a whack of extra money into a slower audi

Am i the only one who doesnt give a flying f*** about interior? When i'm driving, my eyes are on the road, not the nifty cup holder. As long as there is a radio, tach, speedo, fuel, and clock, i'm happy. A seat would be nice, too.

2002 Audi A4 1.8T (w/sport package and 17" wheels) -- $28,225
2002 Subaru WRX -- $25,100

I still would rather have the A4
