Keyword here is "useable" subnets. You don't use the first or last.

So:

Subnet 0, Network address 192.168.100.0/28, and Subnet 15, Network address 192.168.100.240/28, would both not count. This gives you a total of fourteen useable subnets, .16,.32,.48,.64,.80,.96,.112,.128,.144,.160,.176,.192,.208,.224, & .240.

So:

1. 192.168.100.64
2. 192.168.100.175
3. 192.168.100.225

heyyy i only found this topic hard in the exam, so thats why, after you guys tell me i do check to see if the answers are correct and work it out for myself. I look at the charts for help, but if i can not understand, I ask you guys, I really hope you guys don't mind , its why i joined this forum to ask for help...Its from the past papers, the new paper will have new questions

Atleast tell us what you already know about subnets.we are here sure to help you,but just plainly answering your question wont help you at all.yeah, it gets a little tricky doing the maths,but if you understand all the concepts it will be easy.so tell us exactly what your doubts are.Also you can download the BOSON SUBNET CALCULATOR to check if youre answers are right.

Remember to only use the calculator to check your answers. Using the calculator in place of learning and comprehending the concepts will not help you at all.

For a Cisco test today, I believe ip subnet-zero is assumed to be configured as it's the default for all current routers. So first and last subnets are ok to use.

I believe this is true. way back in the ~11.3 (router) era, the command to enable subnet zero became a default, along with the enablement of classless addressing (as a default).

Spidey might be able to add to this; he's old too, but has a much better memory. ;-}

In the Cisco exams it will tell you if subnet zero is enabled (and i think it ALWAYS is). At least it has for every Cisco exam I have ever taken.

Nothing wrong with a student asking these types of questions. No one is born with this knowledge.

To many figure they will just buy/download a brain dump and not have to really learn anything.

Hhahaha mammador, I will ofcourse say thanks to you guys for all the help if I pass the exam and alkemyst i agree with you , the subnet mask questions were hard so i didn't do those qs in the exam, but after recieving help from you guys i have understood alot and using the calculator has been helpful as well. It's the reason for joining to get help on subnet mask questions, i never knew about this site before but ever since i did, all your guys help have been amazing , i also do check for myself if the answers given are correct/not through youtube, google etc, and try to understand myself too I think if i told the reason for joining before they would have understood. The questions will 100% be new, these subnet mask questions are from a past paper, so its not like i will be taking anything for granted. So please try to understand everyone

One thing that would probably help the most is posting your process when you're having a problem. Subnetting is very much a process, so the more you can pinpoint the part that's giving you issues the more specific we can be in helping you really "get" it.

My clear understanding is that both subnet 0 and 'all-ones' subnets are allowed (and this applies to Cisco exams).
So :-
100.48/28
100.159
100.209
MallowGirl, leave it to you to work out the logic...

Thinking about this, the question really should be...

"The network IP address allocated to you as a network administrator is 192.168.100.0/24 ... You are asked to subnet this address space (we agree the need to subnet to 192.168.100.0/28) to allow sufficient subnets then answer the following questions:

(i) What is the network addr....etc etc..."

(...Since subnetting a /28 address space further wouldn't allow enough subnets to get to a 14th subnet...)
