Subversion server - some advice please

I've got my wireless network at home:

4 x Windows XPpro SP2 (One of which I want to be the subversion server)

1 x Windows XPhome SP2 (laptop)

wireless router is:

Kcorp KLG-575

I've got subverion set up as a windows service on the "server" and it works as it should when I access it internally (by putting in the internal ip address).

I don't know how to let my colleagues access it from their own home pc's though. I was going to put the "server" in the router's DMZ but thought better of it. Perhaps I can just set it as a virtual server?

I really don't know and I've been searching google for answers, but so far have not had any success. If anyone knows how to do this or knows of an online guide then it'd be a great help and much appreciated.

In the mean time, I'll continue searching for the answer.

Depends on how you're accessing the server, when I used svn I accessed it either locally or via SSH so that would mean port 22 for me. If you're using WebDAV that means either port 80 or 442. If you're using svnserve, not really something I'd recommend since there's no encryption and the password is in clear text on the server, it looks like the default port is 3690.

I'm using svnserve.exe as a windows service. I knew the port was 3690 and I know the passwords are on the server. What I need to know is what to set the server up as on my router.

Do you mean that I need to set it as a virtual server using TCP/IP on that port on the router?

The security of the server is not my main concern, it's the security of the other pc's on the network that I'm more worried about

The terminology differs between routers but what you need to do is forward port 3690 from the Internet side of your router to your internal server's IP.

Ok, I think that's a virtual server on my router. The virtual server setup asked for a public port and a private port (both of which i put 3690) and the LAN IP. That sound right?

The svnserve service is set up on a user account that only has privaliges for the repository folder and it's subfolders. Do you think there's much else I can do for security?

That does sound right, now you just need an external host to test it with.

For security I'd run it over SSH or WebDAV/HTTPS but I don't know how much of a pain that would be to setup on Windows.

I've heard mention of an ssh shell running as a daemon or something. Know anything about that, or indeed any pointers on how I'd get the ssh on the go?

No clue, all of my svn experience happened on Linux where all of that stuff is simple. =)
