No arguments here - the extra shit is to mask the low quality ingredients.

All of a sudden I'm craving a McDouble w/ all the fixins

I thought Subway had decent quality before they hit it big and spread everywhere. After that the bread left an aftertaste in my mouth and I saw the visual appeal of their meats start to decline. Flavorless tomatoes and weak pickles, and some locations only stock yellow and honey mustard. No spicy brown for a good samich? Fook this noise!

I miss Firehouse Subs with a fiery passion now, thanks guys.

It's like the same people who go to Five Guys and order a burger with only meat and cheese and no other toppings and complain the burger is small and bland. No shit. When you order a sandwich or burger, you should order it all the way. it should be judged fully dressed. Not missing most of the ingredients. Picky eaters get the right to eat but they along with vegetarians have no taste buds so they shouldn't be allowed to comment on any food other than something like cereal.

What are you talking about, the larger Five Guys burger with meat and cheese and either mayo or ketchup or both is fantastic. A classic American cheeseburger does not have a lot of toppings. When Alton Brown made his perfect burger it was the patty, cheese, mayo and onions on bun. And that's it. I think if you pile up too many things on a burger it's too much. Sometimes I try extra toppings but not often. But if you like that, go for it. Nobody said not to, but arguably the classic American Cheeseburger is one with few toppings. Even places that have multiple special burgers on the menu always have a classic cheeseburger there as well.

I have no idea how being vegetarian equates to not having taste buds. Most of them don't eat meat for ethical and/or health reasons. I gravitate towards eating lots of meat, but I've still managed to eat a lot of tasty vegetarian/vegan fare.

Five Guys cheeseburger topped ALL THE WAY is the standard Five Guys burger. Yes, you can order or leave out any toppings you want. But the toppings in black letters are standard. The red letter toppings are really the optional toppings. Black letter toppings are not really optional. You don't have to get the black letter toppings but it negatively impacts the taste and experience of Five Guys burger.

It's like you can order steak at steakhouse anyway you want but ordering it medium-rare is right way to eat a steak. You're free to eat it well done and with ketchup like Donald Trump but that's the wrong way to eat it.

It's not the standard way or the right way, it's the All the Way and a suggestion. You are just projecting those other qualities onto it. And who gets mustard on a burger? That's just wrong. A standard Five Guy's burger is just that - Meat, Bun and possibly cheese. The rest is up to the customer.

Jersey Mike's Mike's way is standard on all their cold subs unless you specify otherwise, so therefore that is the right way they believe a cold sub should be served. The rare time I am at Jersey Mike's I get it Mike's Way for sure.

I do get it Mike's Way sometimes at other sandwich shops, although I've stopped the O&V lately cause they always put too much on of that. Depending what kind of sub determines onions or not, or if the place cuts their onions too thick, which a lot of average deli's do unfortunately. Jersey Mike's onions are very thinly sliced.

InO animal style = mustard on the patties before throwing them on the flat top

Interesting. I always got my In n Out burgers animal style. The mustard being part of the cooking process must cook it out or something, leave it on the grill perhaps. You don't taste it over that sauce goodness they use. I've had mustard with ketchup on a cheeseburger before to try it. No thanks.

Had a chicken sub today from subway and it was nasty. Been out of town and stuck in a tiny town with subway one of the few places to eat so had ate there all week for lunch. Steak was decent and had that two days. Third day had chicken and it was plain gross. Odd texture and taste. So glad to get back home with some Jersey Mikes. (and the local place that is even better.)

LOL some people

Needless to say, he jumped at the excuse to hit In-N-Out. $120 in overnight delivery fees later, the UPS man showed up at my door at 9:30 the next morning, golden package in hand.** Inside were two regular Double-Doubles, two Animal Style Double-Doubles, two plain cooked beef patties, two packets of Spread, and one large chunk of dry ice to freak out Dumpling with.

His work in deconstructing the spread though is magnificent. I'm good for 2 spread packets every time.

Actually I wonder how much better Mr. Sub is than Subway as far as quality goes. They should run the same tests on Mr. Sub too, would be interesting to see the results. I tend to prefer Mr. Sub anyway. I just get Subway due to convinience as Home Depot has one and I'm in there all the time.

Subway is awful. How it survives in Philly area where there's so many good hoagie shops is beyond me.

The pretentiousness in this thread hurts my head. I'm going to go grab a few Hot n Spicy McChickens to fix it.

A classic American cheeseburger starts with good meat. That leaves Five Guys out of the discussion.

I enjoy a five guys burger but it is pretty poor quality patty. In-n-out definitely out classes it in the cheese/patty/bun category. Not to mention it cost 28 dollars for 2 people, one of them being a woman, the last time I went to 5 guys. That costs as much as going to an actual restaurant and getting a really good burger.

You're doing it wrong if everyone buys fries at 5 guys. 1 large fries is plenty for a family. Give her the fry cup, and you can eat the others (same amount) in the bag.

But if I had a choice...I'd lean In-and-Out

I agree, but she wanted cajun fries and I wanted normal. Honestly neither of the fries were particularly good and it cost 6.50 just for the 2 fries, but even without fries it was a 20 dollar meal. I think we spend 15 bucks or less at In-and-Out with animal style fries, 2 burgers and a drink and a milkshake.

Are they supposed to charge less for women?
It costs me less than that for three people, one large fry and three burgers. One teenager, and two adults.

Oh, and ask for the fries well-done.

Well they tend to eat less depending on the breeding.

Obviously you've never been to an actual deli. Sad.

Subway is gross. The toppings have no real flavor and the meat is flavorless and small. It all looks so nice but it really sucks. Go to a real deli and get a sandwich, and after that, try Subway. At least the fast food burger places have some redeeming qualities.

Just because I don't consider Subway the "worst fast food place ever" you act like I somehow said it was better than a good deli. Strawman much? I have been to "real delis" and they're a total crapshoot. Some are great and some are absolutely not any better than Subway despite costing twice as much, and I've been to multiple ones that were absolutely worse than Subway while costing more and having total shit customer service.

We'll have to disagree on it being gross. No it's not some euphoric experience, but come on.
