I have multiple subwoofer outputs [2] on my AVR .
Subwoofer signals come from 2 separate preamps built into the AVR.
The signal output from those preamps is a digital signal, going to, two RCA LFE jacks at the back of the AVR
My 2 self powered subwoofers each have a digital RCA input.
I use RCA coaxial cables to make the connection.
I think you have been making some assumptions that are a little off base. There is no subwoofer with a coaxial digital or toslink input. There is also no receiver or pre-amp with a coaxial digital or toslink output for LFE.
I could see why one might get the impression because highly shielded 75 ohm Coaxial cables with RCA connectors are commonly used as both coaxial digital cables and analog line level audio cables for powered subwoofers.
And most often, this cable is labeled and sold as a coaxial digital cable though it can carry many different kinds of signals.
