Hi I have a 300 dollar budget maximum, and I want to buy a sub for my bedroom, it will be used in a 4.1 set up with my PC. I will be gaming but mostly with headphones so the sub would be specially for music purposes. I know subs aren't known for being very tight under a certain price range but since that isn't in my budget I was wondering if there were some tight subs at my price range. It doesn't need to be super powerful because my room isn't that big, it's not small, about average, but still. I already have some audioengine a5+s and some audioengine a2s as rear speakers so I need a sub now. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks. I just don't want it to be boomy like most home theater subs, they just loose it with music! :|

I have a 10 or 12 year old Paradigm PDR-10 that is amazingly musical for the price. Used, one should be had for well under $300. Looking at Paradigm's web site, the PDR 100 would be the current model. A 10" sub, though, might be a little much for a small room and the PDR-8 (PDR 80) 8" might be better suited.

The key for a setting up a sub for music is to keep the crossover low, much lower than you would expect by the numbers alone. The range of the sub will still overlap with your monitors. Also, to keep the volume low enough that the sub is barely noticeable when playing most music. When playing movies, games or electronic music with artificially produced bass, you'll hear it. It's one of those things that you shouldn't normally even notice until you turn it off and then you realize something is missing.

Edit: I've been impressed with what I've heard out of the speakers from Audioengine. I've never heard their sub, but I'd be surprised if you could go wrong with it. MSRP is $349. Could be a good match.

That could fit well yes I've taken a look at it already but I'll go take another one and look a little harder haha, I will also check out your first suggestion as that looks very good too.

Dude my budget is 300. It's a different question. Get off my d please. I also have diff speakers than that guy so I want them to match well. And I've also already looked at that thread and it didn't help me as much I wanted. Logical thing to do is ask your own question that's tailored to you specially if you don't get the answer you want from someone else's question. Room size is also an important factor and he's talking about a living room not a bedroom. If you don't know about thee subject please don't be ignorant. Get a clue and stop posting threads that don't pertain to the situation on my posts please. Thank you.

the 250$ thread linked above will have most of the same recommendations. the 50$ difference does not really get you that much more

Yup.
For the price range, matching it to speakers or a room size doesn't really matter.

To the OP: I respond to posts I'm interested in, or I post a link to an existing thread if it already exists. If you don't want this to happen, do as the moderator said the first day you started spamming tons of already discussed topics and search before posting. Not sure why you're taking it so personally.

Fostex PM-SUBn.

If you care about music fidelity, you will want--as has been noted here--the crossover point to go no higher than 100Hz, 80Hz would be better. This means that the satellites need to be big enough to go down to 100Hz. I often see these 2.1 systems with ridiculously small satellites that cannot properly hand-shake with the subwoofer. Caveat emptor.

Thanks for the reponses! My room isn't that large and I don't need to shake the house, so I was thinking a 10 or 8 inch sub would be better than 12, if I go smaller but stay the same price could that mean that I would get quality instead of just power?

Newegg had the 10" Polk PSW on sale for $70 the other day and goes on sale all the time. I have one mated to my wife's A2's and it's good stuff for the price.
