Mikki, if yo'ure listening, I wanted to thank you for the help with my overclocking problem. I am now running my 1.6A at 2.4 at the default voltage (1.5). I have just one question though, what do people mean by the "burn-in" period? Does that mean I should run it at 2.4 for a few days before trying to go higher? My 3d score was like 10,200 btw. Not too shabby.

Ciao

"Burn in" is a process many here foolishly believe will help the ocing of chips....IMO the chip either can do it or not. They don't need to be "primed" to run at any speed...They have been tested and ran harder by intel then many of us can duplicate. INtel's own guys here in Anand say this is incorrect.

An internet myth perpetuated by unqualified persons....Like the dipsh^t who told me high volatge does not cause electromigration in northwoods, and any vcore you could get to run with lower then 60c temps was fine....Ofcourse that wasn't true either...

I have never been able to oc to a speed I couldn't previously run at cause I ran a "burn in process" at a lower speed....We tend to move in small leaps to try to isolate when problems arrive and when we need to give it more juice.

I would think stability is what you need to test now....Go ahead and run prime95 and/or loops of 3dmark overnight to test this...

If you want to keep running higher??? I would test prime95 and 3dmark2k1se for 1 hour...if stable then I would boost it up a bit more....when it errors out in prime give it a bit of juice in .025v increments if you can...Once you get to a point you wish not to raise vcore anymore then test it for 12-24 hours in prime95. Ths should lock down stability for most users....

Duvie when you say "burn in" is a myth , does that also apply to memory? From my personal
experience, a week and a half ago when I ran my 1.6A @ 2.56Ghz 4:5 mem ratio 160FSB 400Mhz DDr
I had to raise my Vcore to 1.67V and my Vdimm to 1.60V or else my computer crashed when running
3D Mark 2001. Since then I have ran it at this speed and at 2.65Ghz 160FSB Vcore 1.70V Vdimm 1.60V
(at 2.65Ghz it crashed while running 3d mark, have not tried it recently) I have also ran several sessions
of the Sandra memory burn in at the high stress setting. Yesterday I lowered my Vcore and I was able
to run 3d Mark 2001 successfully at 2.56Ghz Vcore 1.55V Vdimm 1.60V. Call it "burn in" or call it a "miracle"
but something has definitely changed.

It likely was something else...INtel technician will tell you there is no scientific basis to this....the will tell you the opposite will happen.

IMO...I have never had ram improve due to stress testing as well...

With 3dmark there are so many factors...I did the same thing once to find out that when I installed the drivers properly I didn't crash anymore at the lower voltage...NO burn in just a driver issue....

This is exactly why I do not like 3dmark as a stress test for memory and cpu...please use prime95 for that...3dmark can be so easily messed up from a host of factors...

no..
Burn-in is a reality. I have a solid proof!! Just look how Intel or AMD release their cpus. Its always low speed first followed by high-speed. This proves that both intel and amd have in house burn-in plants. The more the cpu is burnt in, the more speed it can get!!!!
