Well I checked out of the hotel. My final bill was $1961 for my stay. I am now down the street in a Marriott. I should have stayed at the Marriott in the first place seeing as how I'm a platnium member, my room is bigger and the rate per night is cheaper. My company is covering all of my expenses, but I still kick myself for not checking into the marriott like I first wanted to.

I'll never stay at a Holiday Inn again, and I plan to write a letter to the company telling them that.

Marriott > Holiday Inn by far. There's no real comparison.

When comparing Marriott to HI franchises, yes. When talking about corporate operated HI properties, less so. Franchising is a good way to make money for the brand but NOT a good way to maintain consistent quality.

Maybe I just stayed at excellent Marriott's compared to subpar Holiday Inn's... Luck of the draw, I guess.

Your bad experience is noted for future reference. Actually I dread anymore having to go on the road as I used to do so much. Due to the nature of the work I very seldom was able to predict my route well enough to make any reservations. It's then that you see how thin the veneer of hospitality is as many of these places.

There are plenty of subpar HI properties. It used to be a lot worse though, before they started making a serious push to eliminate poor properties (about 5-10 years ago). They've also had so many changes at corporate that the management was questionable.

Put it this way. They've had about five or six name changes for the parent company of Holiday Inn. When I started there, they had just changed the name. By the time I left 2.5 years later, they were changing it again. Since then (2001), they've changed it AGAIN! Also, the parent company isn't even based in the US anymore -- the HQ was moved to London so the Brit stuffed shirts could run it from there (though the majority of the real HQ work is still done in Atlanta). That place is a mess.

lol I've had my fair share of holiday inn nightmares. Mixed up reservations, over billing, dirty rooms, you name it.

On a recent 4 star package to China. I saw that I was staying at a Holiday Inn in Shanghi. I immediatly called my agent to bitch. But she assured me it was a 4 star joint. Yah right I thought, but when I got there I couldn't believe the place. Very nice and HUGE. Boarderd on 5 star, I couldn't believe it was a Holiday Inn.

hint: in your letter to corporate, provide a copy of the bill to support your story, and don't say "I will never stay at a Holiday Inn again." If they've already lost your business, why would they be inclinced to bend over backwards for you?

I usually stay at Residence Inn when I am on the road. Like right now for the next 2 months. It's nice to have a kitchen, seperate living room, and wireless internet access. They also serve a full breakfast in the morning and a light dinner at night, no charge. I have never stayed at a Residence Inn that was crap.

Thanks for the tip, but that's pretty much along the lines of what I'm going to say, b/c I never will stay in one of their hotels and I have no interest in doing so.
