Im sick of having to buy a vacuum every 6 months because they break. Im willing to fork out the cash for a high quality vacuum that, hopefully, wont break.

Anyone have any experience with Dyson Vacuums?

*On a side note, anyone have link to the SNL Dyson Toilet skit? That was gold.

I'll look up vacuum cleaners on Consumer Reports if you want. I think they just rated a new batch.

We've had one for a few months, so far so good. The belt on the unit is not user replaceable, I still suspect that will go first. There's some kind of ratcheting system that keeps it going and preventing it from breaking... and if you have pet hair in the house, you'll need to clean the roller off every other time to keep the ratchet safety thing from driving you crazy.

Otherwise great vacuum, does a great job and seems like it's built pretty solid.

I'd definitely look into the amazon refurbs as an option.

PS. I was in Sharper Image or Brentanos (mall stores) and I think there's a newer model out now, they relocated the attachment storage and the cannister part looks like it's been re-engineered.

My mother-in-law replaced her Kirby with a Dyson, and she loves it. I'm not sure how long they last, but they're probably the best vacuums you can get.

My parents bought a Miele... thing is awesome.
can't even hear it in the next room, and it sucks so hard it almost rips the carpet fibres right out

and of course, its totally reliable and hasn' had 1 problem. it's also very small.

If you want a good vacuum I suggest you look there.

Get a dyson, I bought one and I feel the money was well spent. It sucks

I have even let a few friends borrow it, and they have gone and bought Dysons for themselves after using mine.

Dyson's are fantastic.

I was hesitant to buy one because they were so expensive and didn't want to get stuck with duds like I have.

The best thing of all is my wife absolutely loves it too. She is now more apt to vacuum because you can actually see the results. My Hoover POS was absolutely horrible. All it basically did was push my dirt into a corner.

I don't think you will be unhappy with your purchase.

If you want to spend an absurd amount of money, take a look at Rainbow RexAir Vacuums. My mom bought one and it's damn good. No bags or dirt canister, it uses water to contain the dirt so it doesn't get blown back into the air or released when you go to empty it. The only real drawback is it's really really expensive.

My mom purchased an Oreck and has not had any problems with it. I think she's had it for at least 5 years...not sure the number though.

My parents bought a Kirby years ago. It stopped working after about 3-4 years. We have a $70 POS from amazon.com that was purchased 3 years ago and it is still working great.

6 months? geezes.... wtf are you doing with it...

our old hoover lasted 13yrs. Almost daily use too. Mom picked up an oreck because its extremely lightweight. dysons too clunky.

Oh, and I just did the reliability chart too, since that's important.

Looks like Kenmores are a pretty good buy, especially for the price. It's no Dyson though.

I still have one that was originally purchased in 1965.....it was a wedding gift to my parents. Still works great....solid metal and rock solid.

I have a Rainbow as well. It does work very very well....but the old Kirby from 1965 blows it away.

Kirby was free....my Rainbow was like $1200.
