Suddenly have problems connecting to Snap Server. Help??

We have a Snap Appliance Server 1100 here at work. Yesterday, out of nowhere, when trying to access folders off the server things slowed to a crawl on some computers. On one computer, access to the snap is no longer available. We rebooted the server several times but nothing has changed; Some computers take forever accessing the snap and one computer can't access it all.

Would really appreciate some input here.

Can any of the computers access it normally? Also, you do have a backup of your data right as from my understanding that server only has 1 drive. Even though even with RAID you should still have a backup anyway. If one of the computers can access it, what type of switch are you going through, try power cycling that?

Also, try logging into the web based management page and running a diagnostic on it. I am pretty familiar with the SnapServer line so I know there is one in there that'll run diagnostics on the drive. See if there are any errors in the logs there as well.

Yesterday, using one of the computer that could still connect, we were able to retrieve the important data off the snap and store it somewhere else. It took forever but at least the important part was taken care of. However, we'd still like to use the snap instead of buying a new one if at all possible.

This morning we rebooted both the snap and the switch (Linksys SR216 16 port 10/100) and now none of the computers can access the snap. I can't connect to the snap via web browser either. Argh.

Anything else you can think of?

Well honestly it looks like it may have died on you, good thing you got the data off. Um, are you able to ping the snap server IP at all? Try shutting down the snap server again for about 5 min, then turning it back on and waiting maybe 30 min until gets done doing it's self check.

Also, do you have a replacement server, just in case? Snapserver is generally pretty reliable but their now very much out of date (I've had several 2000's but all were just rotated out of cycle, none have died yet)

Hmmm I don't get it, hah. I'm able to successfully ping the server yet can't access it. I'll try shutting down again for 5 minutes and see what happens.

This is why we banned our customers from using Snap appliances years ago. They're not reliable enough to use for anything other than a doorstop.

Intel makes a pretty decent NAS appliance, though. I've had good luck with theirs.

It sounds like your snapOS died. I'd be looking at another unit. How many people do you have in your office? You can get an actual server fairly cheap nowadays thru Dell, just an idea. In their prime, Snap Servers were decent units, but their long overdue now. The few I had were swapped out with actual servers long ago, but a snap server is basically just a NAS.

Yeah you can do the same thing with the 2000's (has capability for 2 drives though). I used one of those for several years with 2 100gb hard drives in it. Still working actually, but I don't actively use it anymore, just sitting in a corner right now.
