How is the thread over after pointing at a Ti4200? I can see why you got banned.
Anyway to answer the original poster, Ti4200 has no DX9 capabilities. AF + AA performance on a Ti4200 is also poor. I know this because I own a 2 year old Ti4200
This 9600 Pro from Newegg just fits the budget, and does have DX9 support. Overall its a good card and has a chance of standing against DX9 titles so may last a little bit longer.

well arnt we so polite
and if he wanted to take a chance with refurbished cards, he should have told us. the 4200 may be old, but i can run far cry on medium settings with no hiccup on mine. it runs any game out there, and for $74 its a steal compared to what else is in that price range.

Does the Ti4200 have Pixel Shader 2.0 support ? No. Nevermind DX9 Vertex support etc. In other words, there is a difference in image quality that would make the DX9 look attractive. Refurbished come with the same warranty, infact I bet there returned due to just being poor overclockers.

Thanks nick1985. I didn't even notice that the clock on the 9600 Pro with 256MB was slower. I assumed it'd be the same as that on a normal Pro.

i agree with nick, that refurb probably got the living sh!t overclocked out of it, do you really want something like that? save your money and the trouble and get that 4200 nick had linked. it may only be DX 8.1, but its still a good card, WILL RUN ANY GAME ON THE MARKET at acceptable framerate, should the details be set correcty. that refurb 9600 pro is not worth the price increase over a new 4200. the 9600 may have a hand in DX9, but the 4200 will beet it in OpenGL and the majority of pre DX9 games.

but in all fairness, to run far cry on a dx9 midrange card is garbage, and all the effects will have to be turned down anyways, so I don't know if IQ is a factor at all.

No, 128MB 9600 PRO's are 600Mhz, it even says in the spec. Some of the EZ and SE cards are 400mhz. Again clearly marked.
