Other than Opeth(being amazingly awesome).... try

Children of Bodom (I prefer old stuff, "Hatebreeder" being my favorite album.. new stuff to me I just can't get into.. alot of people like the new stuff though.. first 4 albums where almost neoclassical-like...)

Kalmah Some very nice thrashy but melodic death metal. I can't remember album names.. check out the album that has the song "Black Roija" on it.

Agalloch I guess this band fits in the category of 'doom metal'.. it's really slow paced.. alot of clean tone and accoustic. Not alot of vocals. It's almost like an atmospheric sound. I havn't listened to them in a long time so I don't know if they have changed much though.

Heavy Metal is like Led Zepplin and Deep Purple. You want speed metal, death metal, hardcore? I think you're confused by terminology, especially if you put Faith No More in a heavy metal category.

yeah i don't care much for musical genre classification.
there are too many stereotypes and negative feelings grouped with the genres.

i like metal, and all the bands that have been listed are metal in on form or another (aside from the spongebob one i guess)

for the record, i love sabbath, not a fan of led zep or deep purple though.

I really like the sound of metal, but I hate most metal bands because they lack musicality, the singers sound ridiculous, and the lyrics just can't be taken seriously.

The music from the three above bands is so good that I can ignore the occasionally ridiculous vocal or lyric.

Tourniquet and Mortification are a couple really cood christian metal bands. Im also a big fan of Alice in Chain's first album "Facelift". Just let me know what kind of metal you like, I know of many many bands in many different genres.
