A brand is just a brand. Rosewill still has what some would consider "cheap crap," but also has some good stuff as well.

ATNG is the OEM (the actual manufacturer) for the Fortress. The cheaper 80Plus Gold Rosewill Capstone are made by Super Flower.

Any background on ATNG and super flower; actually I know that super flower recent platinum PSU have been very high quality (from jonnyguru reviews) but I know nothing about ATNG.

SuperFlower is a chinese company. They sell in Europe under the name SuperFlower. (http://www.super-flower.de/index.php?id=107) In the US they sell under the name Kingwin. Newegg has their own brand (Rosewill), and their fanless 500W PSU is the exact same as the fanless 500W Kingwin and SuperFlower. So the (almost exactly) same PSU is sold under 3 different names.

SilentPCReview.com has tested a lot of PSUs.
They tested the Rosewill Silent Night 500W PSU.

Their reviewer thought it was one of the best PSUs he had ever tested. If not the best.

Two months ago I bought a SuperFlower 500W Fanless myself. I love it. It is indeed completely silent. (I have a pretty silent machine, watercooled, few 500rpm casefans, undervolted pump, hdds in a NAS). I have used a Seasonic X-1050 for a few months, which is a hybrid, and should spin the fan only at 350W+. Unfortunately that was not the case, the fan spun more often, and made a very audible noise. I love that my PSU is now completely silent. But also, because it has 95% efficiency (@230V) it produces very little heat.

I've had two Corsair PSUs, and both of them, while not silent, were very quiet. I have to look at the lights to see if my machine is on or off.

Well the silentnight or seasonic 520 platinum I would consider if they came on sale below $100. While definitely more than the $30 unit zap recommended it might be worth it for longevity. There is a second review of the silent night at hardware secrets that shows the internals and it looks like very high quality parts and very clean soldering.

Those are all cheap PSUs. Antec or Thermaltake ToughPower XT Modular and very silent.

I was looking at one of my old system (using it to bake some new drives) and noticed it had an st-400 that cost $29 (the antec psu with the freaking loud fan cost $60 - also from newegg review i'm not the only one having hte fan misbehaving after 2 years). I never had a complaint with the st-400 the only bad thing about it is that it doesn't have the right connectors for new systems. Anyways is it possible for me to replace the fan on the antec or should I try to return it under warranty (it is 2 years old and have 3 years warranty).
