Suggestion on a good SSD.

The write speeds on the intel 40's are terrible. I have two that are in raid0 and do ok, but individually they are not a great option.

The performance you get from is SSD is down to parallelism. The NAND chips inside an SSD are addressed in parallel so the less chips you have, the lower the performance (write speeds take the biggest hit).

I didn't know that the 3xnm Corsair drives are still available in the US. I would choose that version as it is a safe bet. I doubt that the 25nm version will be bad (the OCZ fiasco was due to cost savings on OCZ's part for using less NAND chips) but I haven't seen any formal reviews yet...

The only problem with the Intel drive is the low sequential write speeds (lower than a modern HDD actually). Other than that, it is a great drive. Generally more reliable and less temperamental than Sandforce based drives (small things like hibernation issue and power saving modes). You won't notice the poor write speed unless you are transferring large files or installing apps regularly. The extra capacity is also a big benefit (you can store more games on the SSD for example)

That's the older Intel G2 model (which I own). As Semo said, the sequential write speed isn't that great, and for a few dollars more, I'd just go with the G3 model at this point, which I linked from Amazon previously. I'm running a Samsung F3R right now. The 320 version I ordered was the 160GB.
I have high hopes for the performance bump.

Just swapped out my Vertex 1 60GB for a new Intel 320 160GB. Absolutely rock solid from the off, no issues to report. The 'Intel Toolbox' is a nice addition too, with the ability to optimise your PC or to trigger a Trim command.

Although the performance is better than the Vertex, it's not a massive difference. The extra capacity and confidence in Intels reliability however, is what did it for me.

Funny how much has changed over the last few months.
I picked up my Vertex2 to my knowledge before all this OCZ crap went down. It's been rock solid and fast, but I am thinking about going 160-200GB (It's a 120) when I also upgrade my mainboard and CPU in the next few weeks. So many more options than a few months ago!

Most cloning programs will keep alignment these days, including the migration tool from Intel. I used the built in Windows image backup to get my install moved across and that too keeps alignment.

One area in which the Intel 320 seems to excell in comparison to the Vertex is in game level loading times. (The Intel drive is roughly 50-60MB/s faster in reads as reported by ATTO.) Playing HL2 on an HDD back when it came out meant living with mid-level loads that broke up the flow of gameplay. Now it's just a couple of seconds interruption before the game continues smoothly on.

I like the 80GB Intel for $159. It's a little over budget, but its also larger size. It is also most likely to give you any problems, and if you outside the U.S. it will be a pain to deal with any issues.
