I tried the Audible free trial a few years. I got the Hobbit and it just sucked. I think it was just a bad reader.

I'm making a 2400 mile drive next week and need something to entertain me. Any suggestions?

I recently enjoyed Lucifers Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle and The Dome by Stephen King.

I enjoyed listening to Stephen King shorts in audio book format. Although for a 2400 mile drive you probably want something longer.

The last 2 Harry Potter books are excellent..seriously. Make sure you get the Jim Dale version. He does the voices perfectly.

Stacy Keach reading Winner Takes Nothing.

A Farewell to Arms or Campbell Scott's reading of For Whom the Bell Tolls are both excellent.

World War Z is good, it has various famous people doing the different parts. It's kind of like listening to a movie.

I have The Road, but have yet to listen to it.

i listened to several star wars audio books - it's hard to keep all the alien names associated with the characters... but they were pretty good

Robert McCammon's boy's life, narrated by Richard Thomas. Needs to be heard in the dark.

Who reads your Lucifer's Hammer audio book? The version I have has the absolutely worst audio book reader I've ever heard.

I'd recommend Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. Great book, very funny, and the guy who reads it does an awesome job.

Atlas Shrugged

And for the last 400 miles

Devil in the White City

The Atlas Shrugged audio book I have is 56 hours. Took me over a month to listen to it, but it is a good book. It should have you covered for the trip out and back.

2400 miles? Oy geez.

I'd probably want to bring along a therapist to ensure that I wouldn't go utterly insane after the first day or two.

I'm thinking 600 miles a day for 4 days should be nice and relaxing.

I'm pretty comfortable driving long distances. I've been driving 400 miles each way to visit my girlfriend every 3-4 weeks for the past few years. After finishing up the 400 miles, I still feel like I could easily do another 200.

I usually listen to podcasts to keep my mind busy, but I don't think I have enough podcasts to keep me going for 2400 miles, hence the need for audiobooks.
