Hello all ! need some help please...
Any suggestions to improve or get more balance in the system i'm building, are very welcome, thank you in advance!

I want to use the PC to play an occasional light game and use my PC mainly for data storage; movies, music, photo's, in this order. There's a LOT of data and I'm an impatient person when searching for local files

Software;
W10 LTSB (not many people know this version but it's the best one i reckon)
....but so far not a fan of W10 so I might go back to W7 64

Hardware;
This is what I'm currently (end september 2018) in the proces of building; I try to keep a balance between price and quality. Just to give an idea I listed prices of what I found and sometimes bought second hand in us$

Cooler Master HAF X big tower case (50$)
EVGA 750 Watt PSU (80$)
Asus Z170-A motherboard (60$)
Intel i5 7600K CPU (120$)
Corsair H100i watercooler (60$)
AMD HD7950 3GB Video (100$)
8GB DDR4-3000 memory (120$)
NVME samsung 960 256Gb boot SSD (90$)

Adaptec 5805 in RAID 0 with following drives; (60$)
8x WD Velociraptor 1 TB WD1000DHTZ (music and photo data) (40$ each)
Adaptec 6405E in RAID 0 with following drives; (60$)
4x Western Digital enterprise 4TB WD4000FYYZ (movies data) (100$ each)

Totals +/- 1500$

PS; I used RAID 0 systems for many years and have never had one failing and I take regular back-ups on an external USB 3.0 disk array, yep the USB 3.0 is a bottleneck...
PS2; I don't have a TV set and video output is to a WQHD 24 inch screen 2560x1440 , audio output is digital via the motherboard to an external DAC; Behringer DEQ 2496 and then to a Sansui AU719 amplifier

Any idea's are very welcome!

Not sure of what you already purchased, so I don't think anyone can really offer any suggestions without knowing what you already have.

I also would appreciate any advice whether the system is kind of "well balanced".
So far I have the MB, CPU and tower...

Based on your comments, I don't think I'd bother with an AIO water cooler for the CPU. Just get a Noctua HSF.

The size of your power supply is overkill.

Hi Looper,
thanks for your suggestions!

Somehow I don't feel comfortable hanging in between 1kg and 1,3kg with a lot of leverage for several years on my motherboard
https://noctua.at/en/nh-d15/specification
https://noctua.at/en/nh-u14s/specification
That's why i would opt for the AIO
__
When I calculate the Watt usage I get to +/- 630 Watt maximum PEAK, when I overclock the CPU and use +12 HDD
http://www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator/

Coolermaster recommends 700 Watt and EVGA recommends 750-850 Watt
https://www.evga.com/power-meter/

Calculating a 4% efficiency powerloss/year of the PSU the 750 Watt model does seem OK?
I want to use the PC for at least the next 8 years...

Thanks for your idea's!

Eight years, wow. I'm a long-time PC gamer with my son... Every 3 yrs or so, I do bad things w/ my wallet to feed the addiction...I'm loaded w/ major character flaws.

Still love my HAF X case, after all these years. Recently cleaned it completely out, not a spec of dust in it now. I like the industrial look of it although I saw some new cases at Microcenter that looked pretty cool too. All the stuff in my sig is now in it.

My previous CPU is now exactly 8y old;
a i7-880 = 3.06GHz cpu that I had running overclocked to 4GHz on a H57 mobo for all these years
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i7/Intel-Core i7-880 BV80605002505AG (BX80605I7880).html

It's actually still very fast, it is just a powerhog; consumes lots of watts
_
I do wonder where all this old hardware goes to... most of it is still working all ok, we usually just can't find new drivers for the new OS anymore...

Yes, same here, beautiful looks without being too flashy with RGB lighting and so on (not my taste) and lots of room inside too...
where are the times that PC cases were all beige/white-ish, hahaha

Your sig has some nice and very new material! great balls of fire! funny to see it in an old-ish HAF X case ;-)
