I'm in the market for a case, and don't want it to have a power supply with it because I'm going to buy an Enermax quiet one. I'm look at this Maxtop case at newegg. Btw, it's the first case in the list. The one that costs 32 bucks.

What do you guys think of it? Here is the pic

Besides the fact that it's ugly, the fans should move some air right? I don't really care what it looks like... and I might just rip that gray thing off there anyways.

Thanks in advance,
Doug

P.S. I'm a newbie computer builder. This will be my first attempt... I want it to go well

That Maxtop CSX-147K2F-GF-USB-GRAY case (what a long name).. looks ok. It's nice to see that manufacturers are building cases with top and side blow-holes. Front USB looks useful. I haven't used it and have never seen a review of it though.

For most of the new techs at work that I've been teaching PC building, I've been recommending the Antec SX600 for their first-build.
SX600 $35.54 @ www.provantage.com (search for SX600)
they also have it as newegg.com as a Chieftec case

Other people have had good luck with the EVERCASE E4252W005A, $22

My votes going for the evercase for 2 reasons, It has a side fan which is running while you have the side off. It's harddrive cage is removable. The maxtop's cage seems pretty solid though. One thing about the evercase. You get what you pay for. It's pretty cheaply made, the side panel doesn't sit completely flush with the top edge. The usb cover is flimsy and the reset button is a bit small. The case may say screwless entry, but that's because it doesn't use screws. It uses these ugly tab things.

Antec is an alround good case but the 600 only has 3x5.25 and 1x3.5 visible(the recessed floppy is really nice though). It's better quality though.

I'm getting the evercase myself because i'm going to try and jam a watercooling radiator in the bottom front and need to be able to take out the bottom drive cage, then mod it for a 120mm fan.

I have also contacted evercase and they sell a spare side for 5 w/ 10 shipping not bad incase you screw up a mod. Also stated previously is the ability to buy another front for around 15 shipped.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still undecided on what to do. I just thought the top blowhole would be really nice. Help keep it nice a cool.

Any other opinions out there?

i'd go with the sx600 as well....while that case you're looking at is an unknown to me I can vouch for the quality of the antec cases....an absolute pleasure to work with and for the price at provantage you can't beat it.

i added a blowhole to one of my cases but my temps didn't drop, so a blowhole doesn't necessarily mean better cooling. right now, i have an antec sx635 and it is a very very well built case. it's like the volvo's of computer cases. it's heavy, sturdy, and built like a tank. and with 2 80mm intakes, an 80mm exhaust, and another one in your psu, you'll get very good cooling with this case. i moded my case to include 92mm intakes and exhausts, and my case temp is one degree above the ambient temp.

I ve got the Maxtop case, and I love it, it is not fancy, or expensive, but it comes with 2 blow holes and fans.
With GC68 I am getting about 43 C under load (MOHAA) on Atlon XP 1800...
Get it... It is quite roomy too
