Suggestions please for gaming headphones

I want a gaming headphone for PC with no sound card for under 100.00. Do not care about mic. Considering getting Kingston Hyper Cloud II, mainly for comfort, 52 nm, and 7.1 surround (simulated), though the 7.1 option not a deal breaker.
Would also like sturdy construction.

Suggestions please.

You might want to consider just a good pair of headphones. Unfortunately my favorite headphones for this purpose, the Audio Technica ATH-AD700, are no longer manufactured. However there are other options. You might want to consider the Audio Technica ATH-M30X headphones paired with an AntLion microphone.

A good pair of headphones not marketed for gaming would be your best quality if you do not require a microphone, and you could always add one later if you ever did.

I really like my Steelseries wireless HP's. It comes with 2 batteries and the DAC has a slot to recharge one. I have both my PC and PS4 hooked up to it so it works out perfect. Volume control..etc right there on the HP. Love it. No wires to mess with, simple setup, long battery life and sounds great for gaming.

Audiophile HP's are great for music but games need that umph and some good VR options. I use Creatives MB3 and sounds amazing ingame. So I don't really agree with some others here that suggest otherwise. I have my Sennhiesers and HD 750's and honestly they are good for music but I never thought much of them for gaming plus I hate being tethered like that.

Get a good set of audio headphones and get a ModMic to use for times you need one.

I don't like gaming headsets....all that crap that doesn't need to be on there. A ModMic is a better quality mic than half that stuff anyway.

i use my sony dj style ones when i want maximum sound quality

i use my panasonic in-ears when i want to block out external noise

Done. Bought Sen HD 558...seemed the best price/features.

Not to hijack the op's thread, but is a sound card worth it if you are only using headphones for gaming mainly? They're pretty cheap these days and I'm just wondering if you can get better sound quality other than stock Realtek.

Will be using headphones on ROG laptop...and yes, there will be an improvement (even cheap earplugs improved the sound). Also I have neighbors (duplex) who complain about the sound when I game , so this will also shut them up. I also have a desktop PC being upgraded at the moment, so will also use on that. I understand an amp improves sound, but I doubt I will go that far as I am not an audiophile per se.

I got the G930's on sale for about $70. They're completely independant and 7 channel.

Only flaw, and it's a major one, is that the 2.4ghz wireless is very fickle.

I use them at work and I'm constantly having interference. They're likely going home once I get the extra cash to buy a nicer set.

I suspect a wired variation would suit the OP.

Thanks all for your input. I did buy the Sen HD558 headphone. I do have a regular gaming headset as well...will see how the 2 compare. Also, hubby uses headphones as well, so we do need 2 sets. (Of course I get first choice on which one I prefer ).

Yes, I gave Hyper X a long hard look, but decided to try a "non gaming" set as several in this forum have suggested.

Some soundcards have dedicated headphone amps and they all have better DACs than you find on most on board solutions from the motherboard.

What motherboard do you have? Some of them have good DACs and isolated circuitry. SOme newer boards also offer 600ohm headphone amps.

Yeah I was going to chime in about just buying the best headphones you can afford and not look at the gaming ones. I personally use a set of MrSpeaker Alpha Dogs, but they are well out of the $100 range.

I currently use LogiTech G930, the one thing I really like about it, wireless. No doubt there are better sounding headphones out there compared to this but this fit the bill of what I wanted.

Seconded. I just picked up a set mainly because of the 7.1 surround, but to my surprise I found that the clarity was head and shoulders above my Syberia Steel Series - which I loved. Music and gaming effects are simply amazing. Picked up mine for under $60 - less than half price!

Been using my Grado SR60s for years. Good, audiophile grade pair at an affordable price. Best for music but great for gaming too. My X-FI sound card does 7.1 simulation on board so need to get headphones with it built in.

*ATTENTION
Whatever you buy, do not, i REPEAT, DO NOT buy headphones that have multiple volume adjusters (for each speaker, front right, front left, center etc...).
IS A PAIN IN THE ASS every time you want to lower / raise the volume.
+ Get wireless! Come on is 2015.
