Here's the dilema....

I have a small office that wants an easy peer to peer Ethernet network. No problem. However they want all 5 workstations to share the DSL service. At first I thought no problem and I used a Linksys DSL Router with a built in 8 port switch. Piece of cake.

Now the problem.....

They need to be able to login to this new specialized ordering network that some food wholesaler set up. But guess what? To do that you have to have about a million ports opened up and with these DSL routers you are pretty well limited on that sort of thing with these DSL Router's NAT firewalls. Basically if I set up one computer as the DMZ host, that one can access the network but none of the others can.

So, I have come to the concusion that I need to find something to similiar to the DSL router that will still act as a DHCP server, share out the DSL, share files between the computers, but has NO firewall of any kind.

Now, I know I could take an old 486 or something and put Linux on it, stick a couple NICs in it and make a "router" so to speak but space is a critical issue in this office. I need something no bigger than your standard DSL router. Anybody know of such a product? A firewall-less DSL router? I can't find one.

As far as Entry Level concerns asking for No Firewall Router, is like asking for Dry Water.

The Firewall is the NAT, without NAT there is no Routing.

The new SMC VBR7004, can put 10 computers in the DMZ. However each computer has to have it own External IP.

With Cable connection, it can be solved the issue by buying additional IPs. With DSL it is really a different story. You will have to contact the DSL provider and see what they can offer.

Exactly what JackMDS said.

If you can get as many IPs from your provider (and the IP of a usable gateway on he providers side) as you have PCs then you simply will need a siwtch to deliver the traffic.

If you can NOT use a provider gateway IP, then you would need a rotuer on your end (and a switch) to act as the gateway.

I think I got that right.
