Greetings all.
With the startling number of bad reviews on the ASUS boards on Newegg.com (and having encountered issues with the Asus X99-A on previous i7-5820k build), I am questioning my default choice for a new i7-6850k based build and would welcome input.
My must haves:
- Support for 2-way SLI or 2-way Crossfire with each GPU taking up at least 2 slots.
- 8 DIMM slots
- NVME m.2 support for full 4x PCI-E SSD with support for Samsung 960 EVO or Samsung 950 Pro
- USB 3.1 type C connection
- minimum of 2 x USB 3.0 type A ports
- good integrated audio
- bluetooth 4.1 or better
- ATX or micro ATX form factor
- at least decent overclockability
- current gen SATA support and ability to do RAID 0 or 1 on a dual HDD array
- current gen SATA support for a Samsung 850 EVO SSD
Nice to haves:
- Thunderbolt 3 native support
- wireless AC
- customizable lighting
- color scheme that would be easy to match for the entire build (also, one of the reasons I liked the ASUS white and black boards)
- really good integrated audio
- 4 or more USB 3.0 ports
- lots of fan headers
I'm also undecided on case and CPU fan choices. Leaning towards NZXT S340 Elite or EVGA DG-8 (with VR headset acquisition in mind) or Corsair Carbide 240 (if I go microATX, since the Kimera Cerberus SFF case is not currently available). Input welcome there as well.
