what are your thoughts on suicide? do you feel sympathy for those that end their own life?

before the trolls go off on a wild tangent, yes i have been extremely depressed during times in my life. as bad as what you see on tv. love, death, bills, etc its all part of life. no drugs, no doctors, no death. Find God. Find peace. Be happy. Stay thirsty my friends.

Life isnt for everyone.

Its sad when young people kill themselves, especially over being gay or something, but there are people who's life is absolutly shit.

For those people, I can see that suicide is the only way out.

Depression is a sickness and it varies in its severity. Some people can get out of it on their own, others can't. If it gets bad enough and they can't get the help they need it can destroy and possible end the person's life.

A person's perception is their reality, if they're mentally having problems it is just as real to them as any physical problem. If you feel sympathy or sadness for a person suffering from a physical disease it would be hypocritical to feel any different from someone suffering from a mental one.

I'm glad there was a somewhat option. Every case is different. Some people are just incredibly emotional, some really don't have a single shining light in their existence. Who are you or who am I to tell someone life is worth living?

One thing I never understood is how suicide is thought to be a cowards way out. In a really weird way, I think taking your life has to got to take some serious balls.

i do feel sympathy foe those that HAVE to fight depression, those that suffer from incurable diseases, those that are married to fat women, but it is hard to sympathize once theyve killed themselves. i do feel bad for their family though

What gives you the right to bring another life onto this planet? A life that has to go through so many trials and tribulations. Don't you do that for selfish reasons too? Do people get the consent of their future children before giving birth to them?


Fact of the matter is, it's one's own body and one's own life. If they aren't happy with it, they have every right to terminate it.

Although, I do agree that if a person has given birth to children, leaving them with no shelter and aid would not be a nice thing to do.

Voted somewhat, as it depends on the case. I certainly don't think that there is anything inherently selfish in the vast majority, however, and people that tell child rape victims with emotional trauma or those with a natural predisposition towards depression to "Man up" are basically total shitbags.

Meh... some people have a harder life than others its a shame but I don't dwell on it. I just try to focus on my own problems like how to cook rice or whatever.

There is some truth to that. I have a friend who in a bad car accident when they were younger has had a lifetime of back pain problems. After a recent event that aggravated the problem and caused them to have constant pain, it all seemed hopeless. Considering whether or not to have back surgery (would restrict movement permanently) or constantly be in pain was very surreal and eye-opening.

Thankfully to the help of a chiropractor, they aren't in pain anymore and can manage the injury without medication or surgery.

In speaking with the friend, they were seriously depressed on the outlook early on. They had to consider being constantly on pain meds, which would dull the senses and would seem like they were living life in a fog, or try to deal with the pain.

The fear of being in pain constantly for the rest of your life is sobering. Some people would feel that taking their own life is a release from a life of constant pain, physically or mentally.

While I personally think that life is precious, I do somewhat understand the perspective of those that feel like taking their own life is the answer.

Not really. It's often a shame that life's circumstances pushed them to that point, but I generally only feel bad for the family. THEY'RE the ones who have to deal with the wreckage...and often, have to clean up after the suicide.

I agree with the comments in the other thread. Suicide is a selfish act. The person who kills himself is only thinking of himself...and not about the family he's leaving behind to clean up afterwards, or has to deal with any guilt/doubt/sorrow.

There are also extreme circumstances in which one does not have any family that cares about him or her. Suicide is far too broad of an act to place in a black or white category.
