I have my upcoming Mendhi, Wedding & Reception (aka Walima) in August

For the Reception I am going to get a charcoal grey suit custom made (probably from an online retailer)

In my quest for the right shoes, what color goes best with Charcoal? I wanted to avoid Black so that I get some contrast and can stand out more.

My wife to be will be wearing a dress which is partly white partly Royal purple.

Would a Merlot shoe color work? Would wingtips work?

Lastly should the belt I wear match the shoes?

You made me take an unscheduled tour of wikipedia for a few moments there.
Islamic/Arabic wedding?

some type of henna party to start things off?

The weddings y'all throw are apparently infinitely better than the stale Catholic and other Judeo-Christian weddings.

Never been to one, witnessed one, or know anything about them, but they already sound much more entertaining.
Sneaking drinks and flasks and whatnot is the only way to liven up most of our typical weddings. Receptions can be fun, drunk, and full of debauchery, but they can be very stiff and stale for the overly religious.
The non-traditional, like barefoot and/or beach and/or non-denominational, and most typical "small" weddings, can definitely help make it more interesting, but it's rare for massive crowd-style weddings to be anything other than stiffly formal.

If you are getting a suit custom made I wouldn't try to do it from an online vendor. You can safely wear black or cordovan shoes with a charcoal gray suit.

I would strongly advise against getting a made to measure suit online. This is your wedding - spend a little, especially as you're likely to be at an age where your dimensions aren't going to change dramatically so you can get lots of reuse out of the suit. In any case, online retailers generally send your suit order to Hong Kong or somewhere else overseas where the tailoring may be decent but the style is a decade or two behind. You'll look slightly silly.

Is there a Suitsupply location near you? There's one here in downtown Toronto that is superb - good quality suits for surprisngly little money, and an in-house tailor to get you the rest of the way. I went to Brooks Brothers myself and don't regret the rather hefty purchase in the least.

Islamic weddings are the most horrifically boring and drawn-out "celebrations" the world has ever seen. The North American version will run for 7+ hours and generally consists of 250+ people in a ugly convention hall space or ugly hotel conference area waiting 3-4 hours for the couple to show up, then lining up yourself to get food served buffet-style, and women and men seated separately, and then waiting another 3-4 hours until you can finally leave. Oh, and as you might imagine there is also no alcohol involved. Yay.

Charcoal is a pretty vague color, do you have a picture of a cloth swatch? As for the shoes, you can go to town...just buy something you can wear with other outfits down the road. Light brown, black, cordovan, ox blood double monk strap...

i would get a Suitsupply suit in grey:

http://us.suitsupply.com/en_US/suit...=Suits&prefn1=collection&prefv1=Spring/Summer

as for the shoes, how about allen edmond strand in brown:
www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF1616_1_40000000001_-1_

OP, what is your budget? I would get the suit supply suit and have it tailor.

start reading this suit guide 2.0 over in reddit, it provides you with details of what to look for in a suit.

www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/1j442s/suit_guide_20

here's a nice light grey suit that he's wearing. In suit, fit is king.

i would change the black shoes with a brown or walnut color.

google a reviews for indochino before making your online order.

grey suit from indochino:

(that is the above suit that the guy is wearing that is not the indochino's model)
detail on the grey's fabric of the suit:

2. grey with stripes

make sure the shoulders of your suit fit:

since everything else can be fix by a tailor except for the shoulders.

Shit - I totally forgot about the alcohol thing.
Fuck that. You'll never see me at any wedding without alcohol both already in my system and probably concealed somewhere on my body.

I am set on where I am getting my suit, I appreciate the input however.

Cordovan is the color that seems most interesting to me!

I don't have a budget really, but I won't go balling since there are so many expenses with the scale of a Pakistani wedding :|

Shoes probably 200 bucks max. Here is one I liked http://www.menswearhouse.com/mens-s...-calvin-burgundy-cap-toe-lace-up-shoes-460806

The color of suit is a dark charcoal gray, http://www.indochino.com/product/essential-charcoal-threepiece-suit

Charcoal suit? Black shoes. Belt always matches the shoes. The hardware should all be in the same family (e.g. don't mix gold and silver unless you're know what you're doing).

Are you trying to get laid?

I bought a suit at https://www.combatgent.com/ just for the hell of it (cheap price of $160 and said why not?). The quality wasn't that bad, better than off the rack stuff at Macy's and I got a few alterations done / hemming pants for the perfect fit. It's not brooks brothers suit but great bang for the buck.

There are sales so that you can get better prices (since retail is a lot, but still we're talking ~$200 on $335 retail), but a lot of people really like Allen Edmonds shoes.

I've been to one Bat Mitzah that was longer than 7 hours.

Then I had other things happen later as I went straight outside after all that and got ragged on for smoking a cigarette on saved ground when they finally got the booze out and said fuck it and left.

Was one of the wife's friends at the time, just reading through some of the material in the pews then was interesting, on top of the Rabbi saying bless the soldiers in the Israeli Forces at the end of it and no mention of anyone else at all.

I felt snubbed and will never do that again.

And a pretty liberal former Marine who had many relatives in WWII.

Liberal is relative these days, I voted Reagan twice, everyone shouting you're a liberal seems a bit psychotic and clueless these days.

Whoever was recommending brown or walnut (gasp) shoes with a charcoal suit needs to be tarred and feathered.
