Not sure if this was said because I stop reading after the 4th page but just get a job watching the computer labs at school. My college needed people to watch the computer labs and since my major was CIS I got priority over the other majors.

International students have priority over everyone else for all jobs. (Wanna guess how many international students are here? WANNA?)

There are also no computer labs here. There is the library, tutoring center, and that's really it. Any other "lab" is really for instructors or something else. I've looked online for jobs anyway in the school district. There are none.

How can you have a CS department without computer labs?

Labs are the most valuable part of a CS curriculum, in my opinion.

And yet... we never have them. It's interesting to watch MIT videos and see them talk about labs or TAs or whatever, to further understand the material... We get none of that where I am.

If you have a hard time finding an internship right now, don't worry. Here is a serious alternative: an independent project. Learn a new language and write a useful application or something. That way, during job fairs next year, you will have something interesting to talk about.

I won't be learning a new language because that would make me shitty at too many languages. I rather get proficient in at least one.

The problem is figuring out what I am going to do and HOW I will learn how to do it. A lot of the stuff is not a simple look at the API and call it good. It usually involves things that are beyond my knowledge of programming with the language.

Can you talk to some professors about work openings in their labs or if they have any colleagues who might needs students? Theres not going to be a magic answer for some secret job that you've never heard of.

This doesn't exist at my current school.

Why dont you contact UW professors and let them know youre attending in the fall and ask...

I'm pretty sure whatever "job" they would give me would be something that requires that I am a student at UW first. I'm not enrolled yet and I can't be until it's summer.

I've looked at UW's offerings for non-student jobs and they're fucking ridiculously slim for anything that doesn't require a PhD. Almost all of it is stuff that requires a 4 year degree. I can't actually recall a single posting except maybe a food service one (Which I can't do apparently because it requires experience) and I think that was part time?

Are you sure that's the case? You should contact professors anyways and if they want proof that youre going to be enrolling as a student, you can talk to the registrar for proof that you plan on matriculating. What's the harm in trying

Work at your college bookstore. My bookstore hired people in the Summer for Fall Rush and if you were good they kept you on.

Already looked into it. Hires only international peeps.

They only hire students that qualify for work study. International students can only work under work study unless the employer is sponsoring them thru a work visa. Not being an actual UW student, let alone qualified for work study, you wouldn't be qualified for any of these types of jobs. I bet the cafeteria is hiring.

Why would I work in a cafeteria...? I can't cook... Oh I get it. Cafeteria food is shit because people can't cook? Thus I fit the bill?

OR MAYBE YOU THINK I AM A MASTER CHEF?

Yeah, I'm not qualified for work study either... So... yeah. Man, I should have done the FAFSA. I bet I could have gotten some money.

Shit son. Cafeteria at the current school I am at isn't even open more than a few hours a day. I think they close at 1:00PM.

Hell, I don't know if there are even many dishes to really wash... (I think people use paper plates)

Or are you just saying anywhere. I've looked into being a bus boy! I'm not qualified though apparently.... Apparently I am not good enough to even be a bus boy.
