Wouldn't it be interesting if I got a job at this place?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trident_Seafoods

Yes.. it would be interesting

It manages a network of fishing ships, processing plants, and a vertically integrated distributorship of its products

https://wfa.kronostm.com/index.jsp?...=postingLocationDetails&POSTING_ID=1772168479

The only job opening in WA for hourly is:

Seafood Processor - WA, OR & MN only

Location: Seattle, WA (Pier 91 (Seattle, WA))

JOB DESCRIPTION: processors work in shore based facilities to convert the raw seafood product being fished into a processed, marketable product ready for sale and/or value added processing at another processing facility. They may sort fish by species, tend and operate machines, hand butcher whole fish or filets, inspect the product for parasites or other defects, place the product into freezers, package, weight, and label the product and load and unload supplies from vessels. They also periodically clean factory equipment and perform other duties as assigned.

WORK HOURS: Processors must be capable of working long and variable work shifts for extended periods of time. Shifts may range from 4 – 18 hours, but are typically 12 to 16 hours (with breaks). The length varies depending on production demands and travel requirements. There may be periods where very few hours or no hours are available when production is temporarily limited or halted.

This job involves manual labor, which a pussy like you would never be capable of doing.

I'm also like 120lbs and the stuff I'll be processing probably weighs more than me.

$15-$20k? That seems high. Generally they pay around $12/hr to $20/hr and that isn't going to be even $15k for 3 months at $20/hr.

Finding jobs is increasing difficult because I am applying to all the ones I can and many are just reposts now. Places that I am applying to generally have very high standards that go beyond just what they list. :/ Even Pizza joints are like, "Nah, no love for your kind." D:

You might have to take a $10 shitty website updating job or something to build up your resume so that you can get a $20/hr internship next year, so that you can get a $30/hr internship the year after.

That's pretty much what I did.

You'll find that a lot of people have no love for lazy, weak, and unmotivated people like yourself..

Dude, I was about the same weight when I was your age.

I couldn't get an internship after my freshman year so I went back home and did nothing all summer. It sucked.

I couldn't get an internship after my sophomore year either, so I got a job making $6 an hour in a welding factory. It was awful work. I actually built up about 20 lbs of muscle over that summer (its all gone now )

With that factory job on my resume, I actually had some experience to prove I was capable of working and I got a $24/hr internship my junior year.

You need some kind of experience, no matter how minor, to prove that you are capable of doing a job.

Is this in an area with a high cost of living, where a tiny studio apartment costs $1500/month + utilities, or is there some other catch?

I got a $35/hr internship in Seattle. They paid all my living expenses too.

I'm in a higher paid internship than that right now in Austin. (currently working out a deal to transition to full time).

Damn, good deal there.
I wish it was possible to easily "shop around" for jobs. I like the fact that I'm paid hourly for engineering work, and that it's usually a 40hr/wk job. Anything more than that is paid overtime. And the people in my department are easy to get along with, plus my supervisor knows the job well, since he once did what I do now. Plus my daily commute is about 25 minutes through very consistent and fairly reasonable traffic.
Something like a $35/hr job would represent a substantial pay raise, but I'd be wary of it turning out to be a salaried position where 60hrs/wk or more is the usual expectation, where I'd be working with a bunch of high-strung types. Plus my weekly deduction for dental+medial insurance is about $10. Up until last year, the weekly deduction was $0, and our insurance plan had no deductible.

Where do you live? Pay is very relative to cities.

$80k in Seattle is like $60k in Austin.

Erie, PA.

Low cost of living, I think. $450/month rents me about 700sq feet, effectively in my own building. (Half of it is a convenience store, but it's very well-isolated in terms of noise.)

I don't know... I think more internships these days are longer than 3 months. I did one (a co-op, but what's the difference?) for 8 months. I'd do at least a semester, or might as well do a semester and the summer. The way you pick up way more skills and experience, give more time for the company to see your work so that you are more likely to get an offer at graduation, and make a lot more money.

The co-op I had was $14.50/hr, which was a lot for the area. So coming from a job where I made $7.25 (and that took 2-3 years to get to from 5.25), working 40 hours a week at $14.50/hr for 8 months was a fucking ton of money for me!

3 months is not much time at all, especially for someone who hasn't been exposed to any of the stuff. Heck they say that most companies hire college grads but they take 6 months to really work effectively.

$10/hr or $10? I can't update websites anyway. I don't know the languages. I barely remember HTML and I'd really have to look up anything for CSS. PHP is something I don't know at all. Same for JavaScript. XML?ASPX?Allthoseotherlanguages? Nah.

I don't think I am qualified to weld. I have done it, but definitely wouldn't be like, "Yeah, his welds. Top notch, yo."

I am basically freshmen year here. I'll see later this week if I get any replies to all my resumes being shot out, but whatever.

$10/hr and it was an example.

You have no experience. Don't expect to get a good job without experience, even if you have a college degree.

Experience can be anything from factory work to fast food to a crappy programming job to mowing lawns.

I expect that I should be able to get reasonable jobs over the summer once I know more languages, but right now I can't even focus on learning new languages because I should be spending that time looking for jobs. Also, I have to decide what language to even learn! I should probably just get Java down further.

Still nothing... Most people are still telling me that having no job experience is going to be a massive fuck over.

I was thinking that maybe I was going to be a pizza delivery guy, but then I found out if you drive your own car... you have to get commercial insurance which is like three times as expensive. And since I have two speeding tickets, age 20, male, etc.. It's going to be extremely expensive. There goes that option.

Went out and visited some places but they're all resounding the second statement.

Volunteer until you find a job. It will get you out of the house and will give you something to stick on your resume. If you play it right, it can look really great on a resume -- it can show that you're dedicated, hard-working, a team player, blah blah blah. And it often produces a great phone call if / when a job follows up on your employment history.

Make sure to fill out the next FAFSA and get work study. You don't like apply for jobs or anything you just get assigned, so you'll get work experience.

For the time being, you'll probably have to settle for a less desirable job if it's difficult to find other jobs without any experience. And you don't want to wait any longer and a couple years down the road still have no job experience. It doesn't matter what kind of job, you just need to have employment history so that employers know at least that you will show up, can work with others, take responsibility, etc.

And sheesh, slow the fuck down.

Slow down on what?
