So I took the advice from the board last time I was here with my current rig and haven't had too many complaints. I was encouraged to do some light OC'ing and upgrade my GPU and have enjoyed the results. Unfortunately my case or mobo now thinks there is always a set of headphones plugged in now(Corsair 650D and an ASROCK P67 Gen 4 Extreme 3).
I'd like to take some time this summer and build two computers with my son. I don't mind reusing some of the parts as some of them are working just fine. I think my son will enjoy the 650D case while I move to something a little more compact. Here is what I know:
1. What YOUR PC will be used for? His: Gaming(FPS) Mine: D3 and Hearthstone
2. What YOUR budget is? $750
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from? USA, have a microcenter down the road finally, but no Fry's
4. IF you're buying parts OUTSIDE the US, please post a link to the vendor you'll be buying from? Nope
5. IF YOU have a brand preference... Not really, I have a budget and care that it is just going to work
6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are: PSU - Corsair TX650 V2 and a GS600, 2500k(if still viable), DDR3 24gb (8gbx2 and 4gbx2), 650D case, GTX 960, 120gb M500(it's going on 4 years old now, so it might be time to replace)
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds? Ocing breathed new life into my 2500k, even if it was mild, so do I plan to; no, if it is an option that will be worth the added cost of an unlocked processor then possibly later
8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using? His: 1980x1080 @120hz Me: 1980x1080 @60hz
9. WHEN do you plan to build it? June 2016
10. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software? Windows for both machines possibly, if I keep the machine I have now, I need to figure out the audio issue as I can't use speakers(anyone in the Boston area want a 12 pack to play around inside my computer?). I'd also like to do a fresh install of Windows 10 on this machine if I keep it.
I think that is everything. I know it is a lot to take in and may be a waste of my time to even consider the transfer of my machine and maybe I should just focus on a budget system for my boy. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!
