"When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things."

That includes wearing shorts in public so I dont have to worry about my hairy legs.

John Wayne wore shorts. Chuck Norris wore shorts. Steve McQueen wore shorts. PeeWee Herman didn't. You might want to rethink that position.

I don't wear shorts. I got out of it when I was younger. Keeps the sun off my legs, and less sticking to stuff when I'm out. Now that I'm old(er), it's best for everyone I keep my ostrich legs to myself :^P

I dont wear shorts and dont like to see grown men wearing them either. I have no problem with anyone who wants to wear shorts and tolerate them but I dont have to like seeing them.

You're still clinging pretty desperately to one childish thing.

Fuck that...I wear jorts from about April through October...unless it's too fucking chilly. (Below about 50 FREEDOM degrees) Then I might have to resort to wearing long pants)

No they don't,it's regulated by the genome how long they grow but some people have a mutation so hair doesn't stop growing.
Source: haven't gotten a hair cut in over a decade

How would the hair know how long it is?

If you got a hair cut how does the body know the hair is shorter and needs to start growing again to reach the preferred length?

That's interesting.

I wear compression socks 4-5 days a week when I run. They really keep my calves from cramping up but at the cost of some sort of male pattern baldness on the outside part of my legs. The lower 1/3 of my legs are smooth as a baby's but. Hairy ass MF'er above that.

The hair only knows if it's in it's grow cycle or not,as long as it is it will grow no matter what even if you cut it it will just be shorter at the end of the cycle then if you don't cut it,it will not spontaneously get into a grow cycle because you cut it.

The genes just regulate how long your grow cycle is and how much your hair grows per day and this is what will determine the final length of your hair.

I like my body hair for the most part, and shaving it would require way too much effort. If some dude wants to shave his, have at it. Doesn't bother me.

It does not know how long it is. Hair grows at a set amount per day for a set time based on your genetics, then stops growing and remains that length for set amount of time also based on your genetics, then some hairs (like the hair on your head) start to grow again, other hairs (like most body hair) falls out and starts to grow new hair.

Some people have facial hair that acts like head hair (going through several grow-retain cycles before shedding), some have facial hair that acts like body hair (grow-retain-shed). A few people have head hair that acts like body hair, although most have much longer grow and retain periods than the body hair.

The hair on your body stays short because you are constantly shedding it and re-growing it.

It's still interesting how it actually regulates itself so good, didn't figure that's all there was to it. So basically the rate at which you lose hair is synced well enough with grow rate so that every given hair is never going to get longer than a certain length. I guess for head hair that must still be very long though, as people can more or less grow their head hair for as long as they really want. It will get up to their knees if they really let it. Ex: girls that get super long braids. There's this UFC guy that also has this braided beard that goes practically up to his knees lol. I guess head and beard hair just has a much longer cycle.

I'm growing out my head hair but it's taking quite a while. Not sure if the growth rate slows down as you get older?

Only weirdo males shave their legs. Maybe bodybuilders right before a competition, aka weirdos.

Also competitive swimmers before a big competition, but, maybe they are weirdos too, i dunno. I swam, but, never got good enough where shaving would make any bit of difference.

No it won't.
Unless you are really short maybe because the longest hair can "normally" grow is 100cm.
Longer then that is not very rare but still irregular most people can't do it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_hair
The maximum hair length that is possible to reach is about 15 cm (6 in) for infants (below the age of 1), about 60 cm (24 in) for children, and generally 100 cm (40 in) for adults. Documentation for decrease of the maximum length with age cannot be found in the literature. Some individuals can reach excessive lengths. Lengths greater than 150 cm (59 in) are frequently observed in long hair contests.[17] Xie Qiuping had the longest documented hair in the world, measuring 5.627 m (18 ft 5.54 in) in May 2004.[18]

Exactly I'm a man...a manly man. I might shave my whiskers occasionally between March and the end of August, but that's it. I DO NOT shave my legs, chest, armpits, or "manscape." That shit is for wimmenz...and girlyboys.

Well said!
