I am thinking of buying a 19" LCD and have been agonizing over which one to buy. I had seriously been considering the Samsung 910T (black). I noticed that Newegg has it on sale for $455.99 with free shipping and a $30 MIR. So the total shipped to me would be $425.99. I would be hooking this up to my 9800 Pro using the DVI cable. Is this a hot deal???

Thanks for the responses.

mzkhadir - I looked at the Dell Web site and their 19" monitor is a lot more expensive (1905FP is $534.65 before tax and shipping).

salsa - the lowest price looking at these suggested Web sites is $445 shipped for the silver version of the Samsung 910T.

Seem to be too many choices out there. After researching, there just are not many 19" LCD monitors out there with all the features that are on the 910T. Plus, Samsung has a great reputation and a 3-year warranty to back up their monitors.

I just wish I knew if the prices were going to drop down any more anytime soon, or I would wait...

not hot..if you're gonna spend that much on a LCD you might as well shell out another ~$100 and get a 20" 2001FP

Attack Cow - native resolution for a 20" monitor is 1600 x 1200. My 9800 Pro doesn't have the "horsepower" to play games smoothly at this resolution. Plus, 1" doesn't seem worth the $100+ (actually more like $200+).

Johnbear - I considered the Viewsonic VX910 ($499 with $100 MIR). But you have to pay taxes on the $499 and then hope that Viewsonic will send you the $100. Plus, the Viewsonic does not include the DVI cable and only has a one-year warranty.

Of course prices will drop if you wait. They always do.
I've seen the 910T at a computer show, and it looked great.

BUT.... check this Samsung Press Release out.

"Las Vegas, NV -- Samsung, the world's leading manufacturer of computer monitors, continues to improve upon its groundbreaking LCD monitor technology with the introduction of the sleek new SyncMaster? 915n display. The SyncMaster 915n offers an industry-leading 8ms response time, one of the fastest in the industry today, making the monitor ideal for computer gaming and multimedia-driven applications as well as anyone who uses motion video or streaming video. The SyncMaster 915n will be on display during CES 2005 at the Samsung booth, #11024 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 6th - 9th. The unit will be shipping nationwide in February 2005."

Sony has some new monitors on their web site. Theyre supposed to ship in February, but appear to be for sale at Sonystyle.com.

I'd say there definetely will be a bunch of new monitors coming out in the next month or so.

Thanks for the post dlockert. It is always good to hear about what's coming around the corner. If there is one weakness in the 910T, it would be the response time of 25 ms. Although, for the 910T, I have heard more people say there is little to no ghosting in games and no ghosting in DVD playback. I think a lot of that depends on the video card you are using and the connection you are using (VGA vs DVI).

Thanks again for your response.

Finally hopefully LCD's will be fast enough for anything. I read back when the 16ms LCDs game out that some actually had more ghosting than 25ms LCDs, since some companies cheated and rated theirs in black and white? Something like that.

I love my 910T. No ghosting in games, but then again i dont play many. For watching tv on it, it isnt the best upclose in full screen(ie 2.5 ft away), but from more than 7 ft away, you cannot see pixelation and the quality is excellent. It might be my video card since mine just barely supports the vrm9 setting for tv. (Using sage tv for playback and recording, excellent program)

If i were buying a new one right now, i would go with samsung.

I bought the 910T and love it. The picture is incredible, the 1000 to 1 contrast ration is awesome and the warranty is three years. The price is a little high but you pay for what you get. You will never be sorry you bought the Samsung 910T.

Wow! Out of 15 posts, no one has yet to say "Wrong Forum" or some of its variants. Where's User1234 when you need him? No offense, User1234.

well hes asking if its a deal, so it kinda it OK in this place.

ALSO, incase you didnt pick it up, that 910n with 8ms repsone time is not digital (based on the fact that there "T" models are digital and their "N" models are analogue in every case i've seen.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes, I did want to know if this was a good deal. The 910T has a lot of good features that many monitors in the same price range do not offer (i.e., height adjustment, pivoting, high contrast, DVI input, DVI cable, 3-yr warranty). On top of the features, it is manufactured by Samsung which has a reputation of one of the better manufacturers of LCD monitors. I realize you can get some other 19" LCDs for less, but not with all of these features. I also appreciate your opinions regarding the 910T. It makes my decision to purchase this monitor easier when folks provide positive feedback/encouragement.

By the way, I did post in the video forum requesting opinions about the 910T. Last time I looked, I had not received any replies. Based on the lack of response, I figured the folks looking at that forum had no first hand experience with the 910T.

You're welcome.

You might want to update the thread so that others can see this great price. It seems quite hot to me, and might be temporary considers amazon seldom sell this low for 910t.
