Sun damage?

My dad says the sun ruined his car many many years ago in which the dash started to bubble up.

Now I park my car outside in the sun and he is giving me the "you are stupid look".

The exterior has wax which I guess is supposed to help. The question is the interior.

Depends on the car and the materials..

Old cars it used to happen alot. My Civic is black and always bakes in the sun, nothing has happened to the dash in its 7 years.

You can get those dash covers that just block the sun

I don't worry about sun damage with my 2003 Tundra, because I don't really care about keeping the dash in perfect condition. I will start putting sun screens in my new car, though. If you want to park it outside and don't want your dash to discolor over the years, just use a sunscreen. My friend is very anal about doing this on all his family's cars. He won't park his car outdoors in the daytime without putting up a sunscreen.

As others have said, this was more a problem with older cars. You shouldn't have to worry about it with newer vehicles.

New cars have UV protection in the windows. You can use a product like 303 Aerospace Proctant if you want. It has UV protection in it.
