In what conditions / situations are polarized lenses recommended? I have three Oakleys and none are polarized. Trying to decide whether I want to spend extra on the next pair for the polarization.

you can get damn decent ones like bolle for 50, and theres a world of difference between them and 10 dollar pairs at a walgreens.

Not only that, the cheap ones are actually really bad for your eyes.

i think thats a load of bullshit but i have no real proof to give.

ive bought really cheap glasses and found them to be bad for my eyes, but there was no damage to my eyes, as i noticed the problem and bought new ones. youd only be damaging your eyes if there was a problem and you didnt notice or do anything about it. the coating on cheaper glasses isnt always the best, and youre an idiot if you dont inspect them and make sure they arent crappily built or flawed before you buy them.

I fail to see how 'crappy' sunglasses are worse than none at all.

I guess you never heard of the opti-grab incident.

im not sure if its in the links i posted or not, but i read where crappy shades without UV protection will cause your pupils to dilate (obviously, due to lower light coming in) but without UV protection, this allows more UV rays into your eyes.

*sounds* plausible. *shrug*

i own a pair of the maui jim "kailea' (jacked up spelling) with the polycarbonate lenses

anyone own both the polycarbonates and the more prestigious glass lenses that maui jim offers to provide a comparison?

i'm itching to get some glass lenses

i am also tempted to get some red colored lenses, since i already have blue ones

I wear $10 gas station ones. I treat them like garbage and lose them constantly, so I don't see myself ever getting a decent pair. They still have UV protection and I even found a decently made polarized pair for $15 once.

Prescription eye glasses with Transitions gray lenses.

Oh how I miss wearing my Maui Jims..."Air conditioning for the eyes."

I wore Jims for many, many years...till my eyes finally got so bad that I can't see well enough without prescription lenses.

Maui Jims WILL put prescription lenses in almost all their frames, but IIRC, they just started doing bifocals in a couple of frames.

Just wanted to post in here that I purchased some Bolle Dip sunglasses and am awaiting their arrival to see if they are worth the money.

I used to (currently) wear cheap sunglasses, so you all have convinced me to try good ones. Let's see how they are.

(Well I assume Bolle is a good brand)

I have a pair of Prada glasses that I wear that normally cost $450 but one of my buddies ran a sunglasses hut and I got them for free. I do love them though, look amazing, fit well and are very high quality. Could never justify spending that on shades though.

I have a pair of $150-ish Revo sports and 2 pairs of $15 cheap 'Solar Comfort' brand. The Revos are sitting on top of my fridge in their case and the SC's go with me everywhere. Why? They are more comfortable (fit) and if I lose/scratch them I'm out $15 and not 10x that. The SC's are polarized by the way.
