I am having issues with P2P programs since installing the gizmo. How do I get around that? It says I need to set up port forewarding...

Alright, 2 weeks ago, you guys said to expect a better deal in May (I believe our contract is up in a week)...so where do we stand.

Any possibility of getting the $199 for 2 years deal?

Please advise

Hey...is anyone else have this problem...we seem to get a lot of calls lately that sound like they are talking to us from under water...very metallic sounding. The GiZmo is behind the router and at the most there are 2 computers playing MMORPG at once...could this be the cause of the poor quality of the calls?

uh, yes. That's why the gizmo shoudl be in front of the router if the router doesn't support QoS.

Care to expand on what QoS is...sorry I'm not a network guru...I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router.

QoS = Quality of Service.

Basically Bandwidth Throttling. You have to give SR the priority over the rest of your network traffc so that LAn usage doesn't kil your phone. The WRT54G supports it but I don't know how well it works. If you have a v4 or earlier you can put 3rd party firmware on it and get more QoS functionality.

On my WRT54G, I have QoS set to Automatic for the bandwidth. Is that what most of you have it set to as well for SR? Or do you set it to a fixed amount like 90-100?

Thanks FrankyJunior for that information. I'll set it up tonite. By the way, my wife has said that during the day the call quality is very good...its just the nights that are bad and that is usually when my son and I are on playing FFXI....so, I'm sure this will help.

Faxing works fine for most. Not sure about your particular fax machine, though.

As for 1-800 service: No, SR does not offer that. I am not sure why you would want SR to provide that, anyway. Go with a standalone 1-800 provider. They are very inexpensive, and your 800# would be yours, even if later you go to another provider. Here are some options for inexpensive incoming 800# providers:

http://www.tollfreeexpress.com/?OVRAW=c...00%20service%20provider&OVMTC=advanced 4.2 cts. per minute

http://bestcallservice.com/tollfree/ 4.5 cts. per minute

hey, those who signed up for the extra add-on year for $99 (ridefree, etc.)

did you have a chance to check into your account to see if you are in fact on the 2yrs/$199 plan?

After 5 months with SR, I've been pretty happy. About 20% of the time the people on the other end sound very "tinny" -- assuming this is a QoS issue since I have the Gizmo on the other side of the router.

Aside from reading about 3,000 posts -- where can I get a router where you can manage QoS?

I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router and it seems to have those features as I set them up last night...I think if you scan the Hot Deals forum I saw a pretty good deal on this router in the last few days.

Can anyone help me setup the gizmo with port forwarding so I can get the most out of P2P pograms? Maybe just PM me so we don't take up this thread with info that (I assume) most people don't care about. I am soomewhat of a dunce when it comes to networking stuff, especially with the gizmo since it's not really very user friendly...

He checked for a minute, then came back and told me he did not see the request but would enter one for me then and there. So, I got in with just a little bit of a fib. No phone bill until April of 2008.

Whoa that's a pretty good deal you have going for you there! Good thing their Cust. service is helpful at least!

stuman74- that's interesting that you couldn't get your SR to work through the TiVo box. If I had a TiVo I'd give it a go and see what I came up with- let me know if you come up with a workaround for that? I wonder if its the difference between a setting on the SRocket gizmo and your other one? Could be something really simple!

The WRT54G by Linksys is the preferred router by most people. Only catch is there's like 5 different versions. Versions 1-4 can be flashed with 3rd party firmware that can enhance some of its capabilities. The V5 router cannot. But the built-in QoS might work just fine for Sunrocket. I'm not sure as I haven't set mine up yet and don't do much mega downloading any more anyway.

laketrout-

The deal got even better than I thought back then. I had signed up for the $99 12-month add-on, had just renewed in March for $199, which gave me 13 months for $199, plus a couple of phone systems. So, I was to pay a total of $298 for those 25 months. It turns out that I was converted to the $199/2yr. deal, so I saved $99 and got to keep the phones to boot. Can't beat that. Under $8 per month for the next 2 years. With me using the entire $3 international call allowance and having good use for the extra phone systems, this was the deal of the universe for me.

BTW, I believe Stuman worked out his TIVO problem. Had to do with *70 he had active on his TIVO, a command not available on Sunrocket.

According to George, they are starting to have the BIG deal arround holidays.
Since the end of May contains Memorial Day, I suggest you hold off jiggling the boat 'til then.

Here is the thing: SR has run two specials, one on April 1st/April 2nd and one on Easter Sunday with a $199 for 2 yr. deal. Of course you would have to move your numbers to this new account, then cancel your old account, so it is a little bit of a hassle, although in-network ports go extremely fast (a day or two.) For renewers they were offering, simultaneously, an additional add-on year for $99. So, I signed up for it, thinking that I would then have that extremely cheap $99 year from April 2007 through April 2008. Turns out they converted me to the better $199 for 2 yrs. deal, but generally speaking you can add an additional year to the end of your existing year (it is fully refundable, should you change your mind at any point) for $99 when/if SR has another one of those super-deals coming up. Like RideFree, I would imagine Memorial Day to be one of those days.

Hooray! I can finally subscribe to this thread again!

I wonder how many others were lost when the forum we started in got filled up and switched to this one? I'm sure I'm not the ONLY ignorant fool in the bunch!
