Thanx Ridefree.

Have more people been receiving the innomeda gizmos like frankyjunior?

Actually, all new signups are getting the Innomedia adapter. The original "gizmo" (Telco's AC-211) is no longer being shipped out.

I just got my hands on an Innomedia myself and have been playing around with it. It is true that the Innomedia does a better job of avoiding bandwidth cuts. I was on several bandwidth-hogging services simultaneously (Limewire, Edonkey, kazaa) and phone calls still came in crystal-clear, something I could not do with the old gizmo.

I dunno. I wasn't happy with the service and when I asked them to cancel it and give me the pro-rated refund, they gave me the run around for 3 months - and then deducted those 3 months from the refund! Their gizmo will use 1/2 of your bandwidth. I have 6 Mbps comcast and got 3.2 mbps with the gizmo hooked up. You need QOS so you need to be aware of that if you want to put it behind your own router.

I have my Gizmo behind my router, which does not apply QOS. I have had relatively trouble-free service, so I would not agree that QOS is needed. Preferable, but not absolutely neccesary.

Okay... has anyone had any success getting SunRocket to offer you service if you live near a city for which service is openly available? Or are they big sticklers on enforcing their own area restrictions?

Once you have it (presumeably in an area with service) you can move it anywhere. They dont care. I had one which I moved 90 miles from the nearest servcie area for most of last year with no problems.

Just sign up with an address in the area where they have service (a friend or whoever) and then take the gizmo whereever you want.

ECartman-

Congrats. Everybody got the double-dip (15 mos. + 2 phones) eventually. It just may take a few tries. Others can learn from your *happy* experience.

azoomee-

I set up a client with SR. When the package came in they called me to get it all hooked up for them. I brought a gizmo I had laying around and programmed his credentials into that. Took the Innomedia with me to play with it.

Robor-

How'z it going? I remember your gizmo gave you trouble a while back. Has it been good with the new adapter?

rochlin-

"Their gizmo will use 1/2 of your bandwidth. I have 6 Mbps comcast and got 3.2 mbps with the gizmo hooked up."

They ship the Innomedia adapter with all new accounts, so whatever you experienced does not apply to any new signup. The Innomedia adapter is known to not cut any bandwidth at all (aside from the 90k to 120k used during a voice call.)

"You need QOS so you need to be aware of that if you want to put it behind your own router."

Most routers come with QoS built-in and don't have to be set up at all. If you put the adapter in front of the router, setting up QoS is a good idea. However, it is not at all related to the bandwidth problems you experienced. As mentioned, the adapter SR has been shipping for a while now does not cut bandwidth at all.

Holy poop...if you have been thinking about signing up for sunrocket...next 500 people to sign up to two years for $199!!!!

https://www.sunrocket.com/sign_up/signup.do?tcd=web4ywk

This offer cannot be combined with any other offer and is only available to new customers who are not SunRocket subscribers and have not been subscribers in the previous 60 days. $199 will be charged when SunRocket equipment is shipped. Monthly international and directory assistance usage charges, over included plan allotments apply. No plan fee refunds will be applied to accounts discontinued in the second year. After first 24 months, the Annual Plan will automatically renew at the current rate for 12 months at a time.

With today's awesome promotion, existing customers are taken care of as well:

Add a second year for $99. This is for CALL-IN. I just renewed (13 months for $199 included free phones) but I am probably going to spring for $99 to add a second year today. Not having to worry about renewing come April 2007 is worth it, and I doubt they can do better than $99 per year. If they do, they probably have another goodie when the time comes.

Re: 15 months promo with phones: There is no link for the double-dip one can get when calling the SALES department. In fact, even calling them does not always result in the 15 months + phones deal. Some have reported having to call 3 of 4 times to get it. From other posts a successful procedure seems to be: You call their sales dept. and tell them you want to sign up. The current deal on their web site has the 2 phones, no extra 3 months. So, you'll say: "Well, other people got the phones and 15 months." He'll say something like: "The 15 months deal was a couple of weeks ago." Then you say: "I understand, but I know several people who got the extra 3 months and the phones. I'll go for it right now if you give me that, too." Most likely he'll say: "Sure." If he does not, have him check with his supervisor. Usually when they return from the check they'll do it. One SR rep told a new signup that they'll throw in the extra value to "close the deal," which means to say that if they get the impression the person is not sure about ordering. So, put on your poker voices, don't let on that you are too eager.

GprophetB-

When you say "outside our network" what exactly does that mean? Is the VOIP adapter attached to a network in a business environment or are you talking about your home network? And are you getting calls "inside your network"? I guess we need a little more info on how exactly you are connecting. Generally speaking, reboot all your devices (DSL modem first, then router, then phone adapter) and have the phone adapter AFTER the router. Make sure the VOIP light comes on, and you should have dialtone. Don't worry about IP and DMZ at this point, unless there are specific blocks built into your system that disallow port 5060.

Project86-

Can you try behind a router? I've read about issues with Comcast specifically when the old gizmo adapter was directly connected to the Comcast adapter. Putting the adapter behind a router fixed the issue. Do you have a router to try?

Also, run a couple of tests and report your findings here:

http://www.testyourvoip.com/

Most people use Boston to test VOIP speed.

plus

http://www.dslreports.com/stest

Probably want to choose the speakeasy test. Look for values for incoming and outgoing bandwidth.

I've tried all the tests, I always get average to very good scores.... Usually very good. I have the newer Innomedia box from SR. I have a Moto SB5120 from comcast. I don't have a router at all, and would rather not have to make another (not needed) upgrade to support my "cheap phone service".

I've been testing it out a lot this week, having my wife call me while I am at work. About half the time it sounds fairly bad... like a cell phone call when you have only 1 bar of reception. Also, when she stops talking it goes completely dead, like it was disconnected. When she talks again it works, but maybe because of all the issues, it makes me wonder if she is still there or not. I could get over that if it proves to be reliable. Note that during all this time, there is no other network traffic going on, so that's not the issue. The computer is just sitting there doing nothing, with the entire 6mb/384k cable connection being available for SR. What should I do?

Unplugged the Gizmo for 5 minutes. Plugged it in and the 'Run' light went red a few time then green. I've got a 'VOIP' light but no dial tone.

Now I remember why I left Sunrocket in the first place. I think it may be time to go back to POTS here.

1 week report: :wine:

Got Gizmo, hooked up as per instructions. Green light within 3 minutes.
In and outbound calls immediately.
Call quality and clearity is good. Sounds fine on regular Brother MFC 4820. Get a little static once in a while, but usually on cordless phones, haven't gone through channels or tried anything yet. They are hooked up to the Brother, not sure if that is problem. But not enough to make me mess with it yet.
Haven't tested all features yet, but will play around some more.

Mom said it sounded good, so I guess it must be ok.

So far with them. Hope the next 15 months go this smooth.

Just called them and signed up for that. The rep seemed a little confused that I wanted to renew my service that wasn't expiring until Jan '07. I got a reference number and someone from billing is supposed to email a confirmation.

Robor-

No outage. I live in your area and nobody has had any problems. There are no reports of any outage on other sites. I don't know what you have going on, but it is definitely not related to any SR system problem.

WARNING Forummates;

As a two month customer, I say to all. Stay away. Try to find a more dependable provider. I use it maybe 2-3 times a month to get calls from local numbers. I live with inferior sound quality. If you want this to replace Verizon or other, think twice.

Sound quality is terrible.
Forget abour calling customer service, they are all deaf.

Sunrocket is CHEAP not INEXPENSIVE.

Oh brother. Most here will disagree with you. Sound quality is usually excellent. Regardless, anyone can try it for themselves and see how they like it. SR has free shipping (both ways,) no setup fee, no startup cost, they ship a free adapter and pick up the entire tab (all calls made, even to expensive overseas locations) during a risk-free 31-day trial. If it is not for you, cancel and owe not a dime. WARNING someone away when the trial comes with no risk makes no sense. Let folks find out for themselves why most of us here are pleased with the overall experience.

ALL:

The $199 deal for 2 years is still alive, and may become a staple. Perhaps soon its time to update the thread title again, Ridefree.

Here is the working link to the 2 YR. deal for $199:
