Verizion CS was fine. They actually responded to email, spoke real english on the phone, and was more than happy to conference call with me to SunRocket to resolve the issue.

It was SunRocket that refused to participate in the call. It was then that I canceled, after nearly 3 months of weekly to daily email with SunRocket on the subject.

The email "support" was a joke ... pasted in english as a 2nd language scripts that didn't address what was in my email at all. When I finally got them and Verizon on the phone together, and SunRocket refused to talk to them ... that was the end. Cancled my account.

Technically, it worked just fine. But the three+ months I spend paying for a 2nd POTS line I didn't really need erased anything I would ever save with them.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I'd be pissed, too. But number porting is most often the fault of the previous carrier, not SunRocket. Sorry you had a bad experience... think about it a while and you might come back. I'm in my second year now and it has really been worth the few quirks I've dealt with.

"I'm having a helluva problem. For no apparent reason, my Gizmo isn't working . I get the power and WAN lights, but no Run or VoIP at any point. Did all of the power cycles, in front of and behind the router. Not a damn thing works. Was fine for 3 months, now nothing for some reason. I can't get into the Gizmo settings either. Any tips? I'm thinking you get what you pay for, huh?"

Sounds like the adapter went bad on you. It happens. For some reason routers go bad all the time. I am a computer tech, and people go through routers like crazy. It doesn't matter whether it is Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, Belkin, etc. The gizmo is a router, so it probably went bad on you. Get it replaced and you'll be fine.

Thanks georgepa. After two days of no service, SunRocket finally e-mailed me and said they pushed new software to my Gizmo. Sure enough, I now have the RUN light and VOIP light and service. Unfortunately, not 10 minutes before I got that e-mail, I got back from CC and set up service on a new Vonage box. I was getting too much grief from my wife that we had no phone service. Maybe I'll keep SunRocket for faxing or something. Or just drop it. You get what you pay for. For my limited use, it was okay I guess. For the opther high-volume user in the house, it is not nearly as good as Vonage (or AT&T of course).

OK... I've got one for you guys...

Several months ago, I ported my number over from Vonage. It was a weird process that took almost 2 months. Even though SunRocket had our number, we could still use the Vonage line - so it was quite confusing as to when it was actually completed.

We have since moved out-of-state - have a new main number, but have the original Vonage number as our signature number with SunRocket. For the past 5 days, we have been getting weird phone calls - people insisting that we had just called them - but we hadn't. We also had one call that woke us up one morning of someone just "testing" his phone. We finally figured it out - someone had reissued our original Vonage number to someone else!

We called back the guy who was "testing" his phone, and sure enough - he has a new account with Vonage and they gave him our phone number. They call out on the line - we receive the calls in on the line. WTF?!?

You missed it. However, it is still "going on," because VT is running a similar 2 yr. deal and SR is matching it. So, if you are interested in SR's 2 yr. deal, call SR up, tell them that Viatalk is running a 2 yr. for $199 deal and you want the same from SR. They'll match it.

Agrall-

Vonage screwed up. Your phone # was ported out. That should have been "end of story." They have no right to reissue that number. Call them up and raise some hell.

Update:

I've posted several times with issues that have now been resolved, so I thought I'd follow up with an update for folks who might be on the fence about signing up.

It seems that SR's customer service has improved and they're doing a better job of communicating. I really don't need them now, however, as the phones and fax are working fine, so it could be that the customer support is still hit and miss and I just got good ones at the end that solved my problems.

I got far more help here and at sunrocketforums.com than I did from SR customer support.

The porting process could have been a lot faster. My sister got her number ported from ATT to Comcast Digital Voice in 1 day. It took about 2 weeks for my number to be ported over from ATT to SR. I'm literally only paying 25% of the amount that my sister is paying, so I was willing to deal with the delay.

The sound quality on my end is slightly inferior to my POTS service, in that there is occasionally an echo in the first couple of seconds of a call and the line always sounds like it's open. It's noticeable, but not bothersome. Surprisingly, people that I've called have not heard any difference.

All-in-all, SR seems like a great value, so far. I got in on the 2 years for $199 deal, which is $8.29/mo. As of today, I'd stay with SunRocket for twice that price. If the price ever went higher than that, I'd probably switch to Comcast Digital Voice.

I hope this information helps someone make an informed decision. Folks here helped me a lot, so I thought I'd try to give a little back.

Looks like the 2 yr. deal is alive and kicking. Apparently it has been running for a few days, but many did not know about it. I don't know how long this one will be up, but for those looking to get in on SR's 2 yr. deal, here is the link for it:

SR 2 YRS. for $199 deal

Alternatively one could go to SRs website, click on the "Have promo code" link and enter promo code voiphx6 into that space.

A website has this deal as well:

Excellent.
I just signed up last Friday for 15 months at $199 and just got my gizmo today. Today I saw that 2 years for $199 is back and called in and they are switching my account over.
Great customer service!
I talked to a guy names Jake and he even recognized me from the last time I called last week.

You may want to enable QOS in the gizmo if you are uploading / downloading while you are talking.

Try substituting a different phone to get rid of the echoing. Many times this can be due to a cheap phone (it fixed my problems).

...also, if you are using the Unidens try turning the volume down a bit. Sometimes "full blast" produces echoes.

Got my service hooked up yesterday. So far, so good. Voice quality is actually a LOT better than my crap SBC landline. Voices are actually loud enough to hear now w/ my phone at medium and low volume unlike SBC where I couldn't hear anything at full. GF had 1 hr phone interview today w/o problems. How do you get into the Gizmo settings? I have mine hooked up behind the router too.

Well, I'm not sure what the problem is but I've been handed from person to person (even a supervisor), been told to wait days for email confirmations (that never came), waited... emailed... left messages on recorder... waited... emailed... talked with somone... and waited some more only to be finally told that they would *NOT* do this deal for me.

And yes, I was polite, and just let them know that VIATALK had a 2yr/$199 deal (at the time) and would they match it for a loyal customer looking to re-up.

What gives?

Three weeks to get my residential line to accept incoming calls.

Call to request the same promotion (I signed up for 15 months @ $199 in late July).

Two open tickets, no response via phone call or e-mail. In an attempt to resolve the issue I sent a two-page e-mail outlining my experience last night.

No response yet (big f'in surprise there.)

Buyer beware.

On a good note, the service works great thus far.

Great deal for the price, but be aware of what you're getting if you run into problems.

Does anyone know if you can have multiple mailboxes within the voice mail system? Something where I coudl record "For Bob, press 1, for Jane, press 2" etc and then have a custom message in each box? I didn't see this listed in the voicemail guide.

Franky-

Multiple mailboxes within one mailbox are not supported. You get 2 different mailboxes, one for each number, though. My wife uses the signature number, I use the main number (for personal and business) and we each have our own voice mailbox. IMO that is better than having one mailbox and then having to distinguish. Of course, if you already use your signature number for something else (i.e. fax) then you and your spouse/significant other would share one number. In that case you may want to consider adding an answering machine (under $20) that allows being programmed in that fashion. This would also increase your available VM slots to the memory of the machine (rather than the limit of 20 messages you have with each SR mailbox.)

Something like this might work:

FAILOVER is finally coming.

The plan was to include it last Saturday in the revamped web portal as an additional button. Was taken out for final tweaking, but I was told it will be added very shortly. All CS reps have been trained on this new feature a couple weeks back.

One detail I was able to get: It will be in the form of a link under "Feature Settings." According to the CS rep I spoke with up to 4 phone numbers can be included as Failover numbers.

CURRENT SPECIAL DEAL is for $99/12 months:

Yeah, we use the signature number as a fax and our home number and wife's business number as the main one. Main thing I like about using the SR VM is that I get the email when someone leaves a message. Ah well. Maybe we'll have to look into a separate answering machine again. I'm surprised they don't support this since it's such a simple feature to add. Oh well.
