RideFree is right...

I referred someone to the website over the weekend, because of the 2 yr offer. When you attempt to sign up (online) as a referral, the 2 year offer is not available.

Getting the 2 year deal on a referral is YMMV, and it'd only be possible (if it is) if you call it in.

I had someone go out last night and put in a phone number as a referal, and it came back with a link of that had a referral in it (?referralPhone=x), and a graphic that said it was 2 years for $199 up until June 25th.

I just went to the website now, and pressed Referred by a Friend, and put in their number, and got the same thing. 2 years for $199

Well, I'll be...

They've updated things since Sunday. :disgust:

Then again, I looked over the current rewards over the weekend too. How times have changed, eh? Those points seem nowhere near as valuable as they used to be.

Edit: In that case, PM me for a referral

Welp, no dice in Germany, but not due to SunRocket issues. The internet in the hotel was wireless. Didn't have a chance to hunt down a wired connection anywhere to test it.

Maybe next time.

Not hijacking. Just trying to be helpful. I just got an email from Sunrocket yesterday morning about the 2yr for $199 deal being extended for referrals only. Here is an excerpt from the email:

"This week only, you can invite friends and family members to also enjoy one free year of SunRocket..."
"Make sure your friends click on the referred by a friend link and enter one of your phone numbers when they sign up. This offer is not available to the general public, but your friends can access the free year promotion by entering your phone number. Referrals entered after June 25th qualify for SunRocket's standard RocketRewards offer."

Anyway, I hope this info is helpful to someone. If they want to get the $199 deal, they either need to get the phone # of a sunrocket subscriber and use the "reffered by friend" link from the main page, or wait for them to run the promotion for the general public again. (I heard that it might happen again on July 4th...)

Yep, I'm sure that's what the rumor is based on.
Anyway, I'll post back here with my experiences. Good or bad. I placed my order on Sunday and they shipped my equipment out today. Not too shabby so far.

That is simply not correct.

Follow this link and you can sign up all day long for the 2 yr./$199 deal without any referrals needed. This link is good until June 25th.

Reward offers rotate. Expect to have a lot of juice back in the rewards section after the retail summer doldrums. Especially towards X-mas time.

aye, with your wireless laptop SR softphone would have been helpful. Shucks.

Hey, how about the US-Italy match? Pretty good stuff. They're still in it.

BTW, remember LSDPulsar? Wonder why he didn't show up as promised? In the other Anandtech thread he wrote:

"Yes, it's for current subscribers who have signed up within the last month. I just spoke with customer service and they gave me a ticket number and agreed that I qualified (I signed up 3 days ago).

This is also MORE than just 199 for two years ($8.30 US a month for unlimited calling) it's also $3.00 of internation credit a month, free equipment, free setup (no connection fee), free 911 service, free voicemail.

I was a skeptic (see the other sunrocket post 3 pages in) but I just got mine all set up and I'm thrilled. "

Could have been written by yous truly.

george, yeah, I shoulda set that up. Oh well--in reality I hit enormous delays heading over there and lost the only day I had free in Germany, so I didn't have a ton of time to fiddle around. Too bad I couldn't get the line set up though, would have been neat to call with my SunRocket line from Germany.

The match was incredible. Most amazing experience ever. I can't really express how amazing it was as a passionate soccer fan, but suffice it to say it's something I will remember the rest of my life.

George,
Even that link says "Hurry! Extended for referrals until June 25th." I don't know why it would mention that unless it was for referrals only like the email I got from Sunrocket 2 days ago says. If that link works, that's great. I'm hoping that ton's of people sign up so I can be sure that Sunrocket isn't going out of business before my 2 year contract runs out.

It's odd though George, how did you get that link? Is it a referral link that points to your account or something? It just doesn't make sense that Sunrocket would be saying all over the place that this is extended for only referrals and then somehow you have this secret link that allows anyone to sign up with this deal, referral or not...
Regardless, it's a great deal and I'm very excited to be able to finally tell Qwest to take a hike.

Hey Georgepa, what the are you talking about? I've been updating my original post about every other day with my progress, rather than posting over and over and over again. Why don't you go take a look. "Didn't come back?" I never left.

LsD,
By golly, you sure did.
The problem is that most of us do not go back to prior pages.
Now, if you copied that thread and managed to get it near the top of - a new page?
But, not everybody has the same display, so it is where it is.
Thanks for the recap and attention to the details.

Edited: forgot the "s" in LsD.

I just signed up for the two years for one offer
using this same link. No referral was required.

Nice. Well I guess that settles it. Funny that they wouldn't just put that promo out on the front page of sunrocket.com if it's available without referral.
I stand corrected.

LSDpulsar-

Had no idea. I usually go to the end of the site to see the latest post. I don't think I have ever seen someone update original posts the way you did, not when the site has the format it does. But, I stand corrected. Nice review.

ahodge-

Someone on another site had a link with HIS referral phone number. The number showed up right before the actual SR promo code. He was fishing for referrals, which is obviously frowned upon on any of these sites. All that was needed was to remove his referral phone number and leave the link as it was any other way. Presto. A nice link that works for all without the referral need. No offense, don't want to take referrals away from you, but referrals should be voluntary (i.e. if you helped someone out with some info and they are kind enough to offer a referral to you.) Nothing "links to my site" or anything like that. The referral link that I put in basically just contains SR's promo code for the 2-yr. deal, RRRyfuf. You may also just enter this promo code in the "Have Promo Code" section of the SR signup.

For porting issues contact Carrie Barr at Sunrocket. Her email address is carrie.barr@sunrocket.com Better may be a phone call to her direct line: 703-394-4188 She is good about picking a phone call right up or calling back promptly.

7 days is definitely on the very short end. But, by all means, call her up. The call is free to you, and she can look up progress of the port, help nudge it along a bit faster if that is in her power, and detect any potential problems early that could hold up a port (i.e. misspelled names, missing info.)

Don't worry about being a pest. She is there for you, all of these people are. Without us they would not be employed there. So, she better bust her tush for you.

Eh, I'm not going to worry just yet. We'll see if it becomes official, and even if it does, I can't imagine they'll be adding so much onto the costs that SunRocket still wouldn't be hands-down cheaper than any alternatives.

Actually, it makes SR's competetive advantage even more glaring. The fee is a percentage of monthly service charge. So, those who are paying $40 per month (i.e. Nuvio, ATT CallVantage customers) will be asked to pony up an additional $2.60 per month. Those who are paying $30 (Vonage, others) are going to be asked to contribute $2.00 extra per month. Those on SR's $8.25 or $8.29 per month plans (either 1 yr. at $99 or 2 yrs. at $199) come in at just over $0.50 cents per subscriber of tax contribution. I seriously doubt SR will ask their $199 clients to pony up an extra $0.53 cts. a month to cover for this tax, but even if they do, that is a far cry from the $2.60 ATTCallVantage or Nuvio customers are asked to pay, and the additional $2 per month Vonage customers have to come up with on top of what they are already paying. Any future such tax will work the same way, with us low-cost VOIP people paying a proportionally lower share of these taxes because our monthly bill is a lot lower. All this means is that SR will be even more competetive vs. other VOIPs in the future and that going with the $199/2 yr. plan was totally the right thing to do to stave off or minimize current and future tax effects.

I've been with Sunrocket for about 2 months, got in for $199/year. Has anyone signed up with the 2 year referral deal and ported their existing number over to the new service?

I tried doing so last weekend, but they wouldn't play ball. They said they would only allow one promotion per subscriber per year, and since I imagine that you got the three months free deal when you signed up, you'd be out of luck.

I have been a Sunrocket subscriber for almost a year and a half now, I think, and they wouldn't do it for me either, because their renewal deal was one month free when you sign up for a year. I would have been more than happy to trade that for the 2 years for $199 deal instead, but they refused over and over again. I'm considering dropping them and signing up again later. I suppose we could sign up under my wife's name instead, though. I just hoped they wouldn't make it such a pain. Whatever happened to taking care of your existing customers? It's a lot easier to keep an existing customer than to find a new one...
