IMO the tax-free zone goes to almost 10-1. Once you sign up with SR you are "in." You are then a customer of theirs. Even if you don't have your equipment yet, you may already start receiving calls (forward SRs # to your current #,) make outgoing calls via the web portal, use both voicemail boxes already, etc. In other words, your account activates the day of ordering.

As for the 2 phones: It depends. The free 3 months represent about a $50 value. The 2 Uniden phones are worth about the same:

http://www.amazon.com/Uniden-DCT756-2-E...ef=sr_11_1/104-1937308-7819169?ie=UTF8

It is really a wash. One thing of note: When I renewed last April I was sent a free 2-phone set as a gift. Then when SR had the 2-yr./$199 deal I was able to hop onto that at no extra cost, but they never asked for the phones back. So I ended up with a 2-phone Uniden system and 2 yrs. of phone service, all at $199. It stands to reason that if you jump on the 12 months/$199/w. 2 Uniden phone deal and THEN convert to the $199/2 yr. deal when that is offered again, you get to keep the phones. That potential "future value add" would make the $199/2 Uniden phones deal more attractive, IMO. Of course, that is YMMV.

When I look at my account it says that my next annual payment is due in late September. I'm not sure if they thought that I had the 15 month special (not sure if the math works out). I haven't received an invoice again yet, but I am making sure that I have the 199 on my card just in case they hit it.

I think that there are quite a few people who have not been billed properly, but they are hesitant to speak up (why take the chance??).

Let us know what they bill you for... and did they offer you the 15 month option for $199?

The very day after I posted the above message, I got the following email from SunRocket:

Dear (Jlensbo),

We would like to apologize for a billing issue which impacted your account. This issue resulted in your account not being charged for the renewal of your annual plan. The problem was identified and fixed and we will now process your renewal. The $199 annual renewal charge will post to your credit card on file within 3-5 business days. The annual plan start date will be the date you had renewed your account and not the date we have processed the charge.

Once again we apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused and look forward to providing you with exceptional service in the future.

We value your membership and thank you for choosing SunRocket.

So now I'm being billed for the LAST many months and what's left of my year!

Do you think this is a coincidence? Smells might FISHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah - looks like I'm getting 'post billed' - sure, I owe the money, but they waited 7 months to do the 12 months I owe.

(And I THINK they offered me a few months free, which was one reason I didn't worry about this, but now I can't find the info (it was probably verbal) promising me the free months.)

If you've got SunRocket service (like I do) and you have a couple of months left in your contract year, I wonder if you can go ahead and renew (to take advantage of some special deal they may be offering) and they would add the time onto the end of your current term?
Has anyone done this?

Well, I finally got the deal. Just called back this morning, hit the Cancellation department option, and told the nice lady I wanted the deal. She said that any time you're within your 31-day trial period and there's a deal you like better, you can be switched to it. So I did.

My sunrocket renewed in August ( I had the renewal during one of there specials for $99.

I called CS this morning & asked to renew for another 2 years for $199, they checked & gave me a ticket number so I think I'm okay.

SR has been problem free except for a short time after I first signed up.

Same here... I got home around 4:00 and had the problem for about an hour. Not sure when it started, but things then started working. This is the first problem I've had in as long as I can remember.

Is there a page that explains what equipment you get? I'm trying to figure out what exactly I will need to get my house setup for a voip only solution. I don't need any more standard phones but I do need an adapter that will allow my existing phones to be used with voip.

Anyone familiar with the new Linksys Gizmo they are sending out? I can't get this little sh** working behind a router. I have a Netgear MR314 router. The techs are not that great there and I have been trying for over 3 weeks. Sorry if I am out of line posting this here, but most of the people on Anandtech seem to have some way of figuring these things out.

I didn't have any trouble putting mine behind an old (not even wireless) SMC Barricade router. In fact, I never configured anything. Just plugged it in and after about 2-3 minutes, the phone LED went green and I had dialtone.

Have you tried putting it in front of your router?

Ivwshane,

As long as you have only cordless phones connected to your home ciruit, you can simply plug a telephone cord from the gizmo directly to any phone wall socket and it will all work.

The issues begin when you have unpowered phones connected. Then, the gizmo must supply the power to ring them. It only has the power to ring one unpowered phone. Anything above that and you might fry it.

What type of feedback are people giving Sunrocket, my telephone company is trying to switch us over to their VOIP network for like $30 a month but i'm considering this.

Is it problem free for the most part?

What kind of problems are people having?

Would you reccomend it and why?

I'm also considering SBC for $15 a month w/national calling.

There isn't a voip company out there that doesn't have negative reviews.

1. The voip quality first and formost is reliant on consistent and clean internet bandwidth.
2. If people can't make a computer work, how the heck do you expect them to make one work in conjunction with voip?
3. Many people start with the false impression that it will be equal to your landline. It will not. There is a reason it costs 10-20 bucks and a landline costs 50.
4. It will not be as realiable as your land line is likely to be.

Don't get the idea that it is a BAD thing - just don't enter into it expecting to get landline quality and reliability for 1/4 the price.

Sunrocket is known for great prices. I'm paying $8.23 a month. I have never had an outage, and only had minor voice quality issues. I did have to replace one of my cheapo radio shack phones to minimize echo. I'm thrilled to be saving $40 a month.

Now I just have to wait for a good deal

Is it worth it over Sunrocket?

The 2nd line, voicemail and all the other features with sunrocket are tempting though.

SunRocket doesn't offer a second line yet, and there's no announced timetable that I'm aware of for when they will. Some people have been able to do it by playing with the settings on the gizmo, but I'm quite sure it's not supported.

Being an ex-sunrocket and a new passionate SkyPe In customer, I can not emphasize the my satisfaction with SkyPe.

I quit using SunRocket 5-6 months back having enough with outages and incompetent support. I have switched to SkyPe in with a 3 month ($12!!) then extended to 1 year($30!!) deal including a simple voice mail. All calls to US has been free and now Canada is free as well.

If web or phone based voice mail controls or 911 does not make much difference for you and you have a computer which is connected 24/7 at home, below is the detail of the skype setup that has been working superbly well for me.

1. Get SkyPe/SkyPeIn and if you make international calls SkyPe out
2. Get SkyPe phone adapter. You can get Chinese made ones for ~ $20 in ebay with $20 shipping. If preferred BB have Panasonic and dlink adapter
3. Using these adapters, you can attach a regular phone to SkyPe

That?s all, the voice quality is truly incredible. Especially international calls to "any" country land or cell line work superbly.

I hope it works for you as well.

SR can give you as many lines as you want. The only thing that doesn't work is you can't have the second line ring on the second port on the Gizmo. THey both ring on the same port to the same phones.

And yes, SR seems to be lacking in any sort of ideas to keep people informed of anything. We always get the "We're working on it" but never any other updates about anything. Especially when there's an outage and I never get an email or anything letting me know about it...
