Two years $199
Thanks, RideFree -- I thought I was going to have to wait for the next holiday before this deal showed up again.
I jumped on the viatalk deal.
TOS aren't quite as 'gotcha-free' as SR -- with some $1.25/mo fee; plus charges when you eventually terminate service if there is *anything* wrong with the hardware or box or cable.
I chose the BYOD option to avoid the returns hassle if/when I ever leave it -- but that also means I have an extra expense for a sip phone adapter.
Now the fun begins for porting my primary number from SR to VT.

But this is a SR thread.
So, for those wanting info on SR: sunrocket served me well up until their billing department pissed me off. Call quality has been more than satisfactory, great price, features, etc. Hopefully I'll have a similar experience with my new voip provider.

Yep, that's pretty much the consensus. Now that they're refusing to deal on renewals, there's two good reasons to jump ship when your time is up.

My renewal isn't up for about a year yet... At that point, I hope Sunrocket is offering deals for renewal again...

Ridefree What are you currently using?? Do you think that Sunrocket will have a deal for existing customers around Memorial Day????

btw I am 75-80% happy with Sunrocket. The fact that I got the $99.99 for one year deal makes those percentages very liveable.
I first got the $199 for a year and ordered that first Christmas that they were available.
Then, I got in on the two years for $199 and then another year for $99.
I'll be old and grey before my time is up with them.
Wait: I am old and grey.
Still paid in advance and a year and ½ to go with them - I think...

Heh sunrocket screwed up and billed me an extra $199 but a call did get it refunded to my credit card...so I guess their billing isn't totally incompetent, just quite incompetent lol.

"SunRocket $199 Annual Edition (Classic) w/ 2nd Year Free ", is the message I got when I logged in to play my messages...

Looks like they are feeling the heat from the competition. Get it while it's hot, is my advise.

I think that is just the current plan you are on - I don't think it has anything to do with what your renewal would be...

I don't see the deal ridefree sees.

All I see is a free cordless phone for new customers.

It's too late for SR to counter-offer in my instance.
I moved to viatalk and am waiting for my number to be ported before I cancel SR.
I also have to redeem my points for a bunch of gift-cards.

Side note: I configured my softphone for viatalk and called my SR number and vice-versa -- and I had good voice quality in both directions. Which is I guess a vote of confidence for both viatalk and also SR.

ttown,
You've got to redeem those points before closing down S/R.
The fine print says that you forfit all points in closing the account.

I see what Ridefree sees on my home page. I think it is the deal I currently have, not a offer that them are offering now.

All people coming off from S/R, I strongly recommend SkyPe Unlimited if you have a desktop at home that is connected to the Internet all times. Below is the configuration at my home that has been working like a charm since i closed my S/R ~ 12 months back.
1. Get SkyPe unlimited linky
2. Get SkyPe In linky
3. Get SkyPe - PSTN adapter. You can get it from ebay, ebay linky or from best buy, best buy linky

Your setup cost ~ $50 and yearly recurring cost is ~$90.

You connect your desktop to device I mentioned on 3 and bada bing bada bang, you can make and receive skype calls via usual PSTN phones! Some devices even provide 1-800 dial in number type of capability where you call home via ur cell and then dial a certain key combination with password where a line is given through skype. Pretty sweet!

bulletpr00f: Edited to correct the new skype in amount. SkyPe has increased the amount from $38 a year to $60 a year, here is the linky

This looks like a great option. I am going to explore it and have gotten 2 of the D-Link DPH-5OUs from the Flea bay link you provided (1 for me and one for my son)
Since I already have the Skype in-out unlimited, this is a no brainer for me.
I will let you know how it goes.

Great post BTW!

Not according to Skype. Second answer down from "help" ?? "home number".

Edited: "No, unfortunately SkypeIn numbers must come from a pre-selected range provided by us. "

Edited #2: More stuff you need to know:
"Skype is not a telephony replacement service and emergency numbers cannot be called from Skype."

My $50 SunRocket signup bonus (from a site where INCREASING your MONEY is the focus) was recently credited to my account GRO-your money =or= enlarge your-BUX.

So I got 2 years of SunRocket for $199 - $50 (sign up bonus) = $149 ... / 24 ~=~ $6.2x per month plus taxes.

So, they've started to charge tax?

I didn't write that clearly, at all.

The $199 rate did not include some type of add-on (around $10), so the deal was ~$210. I presumed it was some type of federal tax of a sort.

Looking for invoice ...

It wasn't tax at all, it was $10.26 universal service fee.
$209.26 (two year deal)
- $50.00 (sign up bonus)

$159.26 / 24 = $6.54 month

it is quite a financial blessing to be able to save so much and basically stick with SunRocket

It did cost me my former phone number as SunRocket doesn't perform internal ports

I just let my old subscription die and canceled the other SunRocket account.

There are rumors that SunRocket is closing down. If I were you I would clear my awards as soon as you can. Apperantly their founders have left in Feb with a fat check. Here is the article linky
