They ruined it, the economy system is no longer unique like TA/SupCom1 was it's just like EVERY other RTS out there now and IMO the graphics are worse then the last one.

It's going to be nice when Starcraft 2 comes out I hope Relic is working on a Company of heroes 2 cause RTS is drying up fast.

After reading all of the negative comments about the Supreme Commander 2 Demo has made me question if I made the right decision about pre-ordering Supreme Commander 2. So far i've played, completed and enjoyed ALL of the Total Annihilation games, Supreme Commander and Supreme Commander Forged Alliance. Only a week to go before I will be enjoying or not the full Supreme Commander 2 game.

If you like supcom, you'll probably like this.

The demo is just 2 very very small 1p missions.

I hope I like it but didn't like Supreme Commander at the start but it grew on me after a few missions. Total Annihilation grabbed me from the start and I ended up buying all of the expansions and playing loads of mods. My fav TA mod is Final Frontier although I have so many of them it's hard to pick a favourite.

They shouldve put a single skirmish map in the demo imo. The impression you get from the demo is you build in small circular areas and you dont build all that much. They need a massive 4v4 map to show that the large scale battles are still in there. Original supcom had a reasonably big 1v1 map for skirmish in the demo.

Have the developers responded to the criticisms of the economy system? Surely they must be considering restoring the proper SupCom/TA system if they're paying attention to community reaction to the demo.

Yeah the economy really is a travesty. Without that, it's going to come down to StarCraft 2 Vs supcom2, and...well...

I'm honestly not sure, the GPG forums are a lot more active than the Square Enix ones that are linked on the site.

i wonder how well teh first one sold on 360.

It probably sold horribly. Hence the dumbing down of its sequel. They really did gut the game by removing the original economy system.

It makes sense though, the company is struggling and if I remember correctly they just had to lay off a bunch of people. This game caters to the lowest common denominator now, and for that reason it will sell well, even on a console. Supreme Commander 2 is what it needs to be: A money maker for a company desperately trying to stay afloat.

I have only briefly played TA. Haven't played SupCom (though it has been sitting on my desk for some time). Frankly, I don't understand what makes the resource flow model "strategic". It seems just like another form of micromanagement that has an optimal solution. You could easily make a deeper strategic game that used the orthodox pay-immediately scheme.

I hope that they either remove the unit limit, or increase it by an order of magnitude. That was the one thing that annoyed me to no end from the original game.

I remember that. If there were too much units on the map, they'd start shooting blanks.

I dunno how to beat the second campaign in the demo. Chick says to upgrade my aircraft or something but I forgot (or just don't know) how. Meanwhile fatboys keep coming at me and the enemy makes infinite+1 gunships.

Also gotta love the cheesy dialogue

"That explains the foot in your mouth"

to start out, send your fighters and gunships to take out the 2 immediate fatboys to the right.

get an engineer building 4-5 research stations

get the other building mass extractors

get one air factory pumping out gunships, one pumping out fighters

as you get research points, go to the research menu (press tab) and spend it on your air tab. also upgrade your mass/energy collection rates in the structures tab. i've only played it on normal but i've beat it in around 18 minutes with just fighters, gunships, and the fatboys that roll out automatically...

and every time you capture a platform, build an air factory there. make one engineer to build mass extractors near that platform, and then build gunships or fighters.

Thanks I'll give that a shot. Didn't know about the research menu :x But engis are annoying as hell in the demo, they just sit where they are most of the time, sometimes wander around the map for no reason. Hope they fix those bugs.

there was an article that said the demo is a month or two old. i guess it makes sense since it had to go through square enix qa/testing before release. the latest screenshots do look a lot better than the demo...

I really dislike the way they cahnged the economy, that was 1/2 the battle managing energy and mass now it's not nearly as complicated. And I completely agree on the experementals being weak they used to be epic and take some time to build. I also miss the old tech tree's rather than than the research system they have in place...

There are "major" and "minor" experimentals now. None of the major experimentals were in the demo.

there's supposedly a way to enable debug mode, which enables the alt+f2 spawn menu. there's a post over at square enix forums...i'm going to try it out at home today.

crap, seems i spoke too soon. it went from "preloaded" to "ready" but people in the forums are saying midnight PST. damnit!
