The defenses weren't playing with passion? GTFO of here. There was some great secondary play in the game last night by both teams. And Edelman looked like a mad man out there.

I did appreciate the defense, but the offenses were largely garbage.

I think something interesting came out of this -- the CULT of McVay. The local Rams media swallowed his nonsense that Gurly was 100 percent, and again, he only had 10 carries and was a non-factor. And Goff apparently cannot read defenses. McVay basically babysits him.

Yeah, I get the feeling that McVeigh had been sandbagging with Gurly's health over the last month or so, forcing teams to plan for an option that they won't really see. ...it kinda worked, I guess, because they squeaked out some ugly wins because they really don't seem to have much of a system beyond depending on a healthy Gurly to keep defenses guessing. It seems to have completely caught up with them because well, Belechick is just too smart for that crap.

Rams offense was badly wounded when it lost Kupp and it was like they were running on one leg the rest of the season. Having Gurley go gimpy was like losing the other leg and throwing away the crutches afterwards; it was a mortal wound in the end the CJ Anderson band-aid couldn't cover up. Aaron Donald is a big enough stud the Rams almost still crawled their way to a Super Bowl. But the bad offense was just too much to overcome and the Pats administered the coup de grace like how farmers used to shoot lame horses to put them out of their misery.

So, this was strange to be so low-scoring but does it matter. First, everyone bitched because the Pats were in the SB AGAIN, then they bitched about how boring the game they watched. Come'on you closet Pats fans.

crap it seems so long ago that I already forgot about Kupp. lol--yeah, they really lost the top end of their offense when he went out, and things did change drastically at that point. They were still good enough to put up some 25-30 point games after that, IIRC, but they definitely weren't as fast and explosive. Gurley did have some huge games after Kupp went down, but they were definitely slower in putting up points.

I remember they had like 1 or 2 bad games soon after that (at least won one of them, still looking kinda "bad"), but they seemed to adjust pretty well, except those last 2 or 3 games + playoffs the offense just looked gasses and/or unpredictable.

Patriots just played steadily better throughout, as they are known to do.

Very strange game, actually. Tense and "boring" at the same time. Pats offense was certainly not great, but they dominated time of possession and ultimately wore down the Rams defense a bit. Patriots should have had at least six more points though, not even counting Brady's interception. First the missed field goal that would have made it 6-0 and then they probably would have kicked on that fourth down to make a 2 score game. Feel sorry for Brandon Cooks. Lost last year when he was on the Patriots and this year lost to the Patriots.

Bet the Saints were really steaming watching this game, thinking of how much better they could have done. Karma is a bitch Sean. (Did I mention I hate the Saints?)

This is what gets me about everyone griping about the "boring" game, the problem is since the current rules favor offenses we have all become accustomed to high-scoring shootouts. Sure, they are more exciting to watch, but there is something to be said for defense played at a high level like we saw in this game. Many times 2 great pitchers in MLB will be involved in a 1-0, 2-1 type of epic dual, some may find that "boring" as well, I do not.

I wouldn't say boring, I'd say the lack of interest is with the game.
Too many injuries, brain injuries, suicides, sad outcomes not worth the physical investment.
Whats the use of making and owning millions when you can hardly remember your name?
Only to end up in the city morgue before you reach 40.
No, obviously I'm not a fan.
And my nephew was a well know national player, and he chose to walk away.
College educated by playing ball, he quietly ended his career in professional football and went into business. And soon will be married.
His mother is and was his biggest fan and number one promoter. She could not understand why her famous son chose to quit? To simply walk away.
But I knew. I got it.
I am still shocked why his mother chose to put fame over future. And her own son?
His choosing to have a future worth living?

Now that he is engaged, his mother has been causing problems. Mainly on Facebook.
And apparently blames his fiancée for his leaving the sport of football.
There is THAT, and then I noticed a lot of empty seats in the stadium at Sundays game.
Was that sending a message?
I really hope so. For my nephews sake.
For all of their sake.

I understand what you are saying, but OTOH, like you said, no one is making them play. It is their choice. Even getting a paid college scholarship is a great benefit. My grandson will be at least 60k in debt after getting his undergrad degree, while someone on a football scholarship gets a free ride for playing a game. Not to mention being famous and making more money in a year or two than many people make in their entire lifetime if they can make it to the pros.

The overall combo of football, halftime and commercials made this the worst Super Bowl viewing experience I can recall ever having had.

True, but football is generally about a lot of scores. If I wanted to watch a game with great defense in February I'd watch a hockey game.

As for brain injuries, they took decades to really show up. The effects of the measures being taken now to prevent brain injuries may take equally long to show results. I think they may be more effective than some people expect.

The Saints and their fans were partying during the game, probably using all of the salt from this thread for their margaritas.

Yes, but I think it's different in the Superbowl, primarily because you will have 50%+ more viewership than you would compared to any other game that season. Most people watching simply don't watch football, so it's expected. And even those that do follow it throughout the season and love the game....the atmosphere is still somewhat different. You might have a crowded house with tons of food and people are easily distracted by other people. Without high-scoring games like we have been spoiled with in recent SB's, the average person is going to become disinterested in the game and pay attention to whatever else is happening in the room. It's just what we do. The "things you don't see" (defense, for the most part) don't really hold our attention as much as the obvious things that everyone can see--which applies well beyond sportsballing.

Obviously, fake. No one in California cares about the Rams and the Chargers. The Rams "fan" crawled out of hibernation and found one other "fan." They were both sad, but now that they're life long Patriots fan, they're happy.
