Just wanna thank DocInTheBox for the original post.

$14.95 for a 40GB, ATA-133 drive! Spectacular! I'm thinking it's even better than the $19 wireless access point the week before!

Sure beats the $1,750 I paid for my first hard drive, a 20MB (yes, megabyte), oh-so-long-ago.

Thanks again to all you bargain finders... Oh, and to AmEx for BVG.

I'm curious why the OD and Staples cashiers and managers always seem so pissed when someone comes in with a $ off coupon to use in-store? It's like they don't know that their company has coupons! And they hardly ever want to accept them in-store! Do the managers get penalized and get less of a bonus, depending on how many coupons are used in-store? The manager finally agreed to use my $20 off printout, but the other cashier looked pissed-off.

I thought I am the only one who felt that ! They make me feel as I am using some 'fake' coupon. If Staples does not want their coupons to be shared between friends and family, then maybe they should realy have single use ones !

I don't know if this is a good sign or not, but I mailed both my rebates on Tuesday, 8/20/02, and the one that goes to Walled Lake is already listed as "qualified" on the expressgroup.com website. No word yet on the rebateshq site for the official "Maxtor" rebate.

Just got mine this afternoon! There were two left on the shelf when I go there, and it was some weird Office Depot Family Fun Day, the best part was, I only had the printable $10 off $50 coupon, but because it was Family Fun Day, they were handing out $15 of $75 coupons! So, my total cost (after tax) was $80.80. After rebates it will be $20.80!

Also, the rebate didn't print out (no surprise there). So when I asked about it, the manager came over, and just looked up the rebate on the internet (officedepot.com) (It was the nice looking pdf one currently on their site). I just collected it and said thanx, I didn't bother asking if this was the "only" one, or if there was a second one. I'll just print 'em both off the net, and send em both in with my fingers crossed

Called 7 Office Depots locally, none had any in stock, none would offer a substitution. :-(

Call them back. That's what happened with me too. I made them aware that the system didn't show that when the rep put a replacement order through for me nor was I told that by the 3 previous reps I spoke with. I also told them the system had just changed the order to "instore pick up only" that day. The last rep I spoke with called stores until he found one for me and he made arrangements with the store Mgr for me to use the $20 off $75 coupon plus an add'l $10 off for my troubles.

I hope that I don't get any of these shippings hassles, as the drive is for my g/f's computer, which she needs by Wed (drive is scheduled Tuesday).

But now, let me brag:

I got an 80 gig Maxtor 7200 RPM, PMed to pc-beyond.com, came out to like 108 with shipping
Plus this 40 gig, total was 19x.xx
Added the logitech optical mouse for $20
Used $50 off of $200 coupon, making it $15x.xx
And then -$30 and -$30 for the 80 gig in rebates, and -$30 and -$30 for the 40 gig in rebates, and a -$10 rebate on the mouse, makes it $3x.xx bucks.

This, paired with my Toshiba e310 deal, has made this week a very very good one.

I'm sure most people know this but for those who don't, Staples has this drive on sale this week for $89.98. There are 2 $30 rebates available, 1 through Staples another through Maxtor. Add the $20 bookcase that has a $10 rebate (as suggested on FW), use a coupon and the deal will be as good as OD's.

Carmann,

Isn't the rebate form on the staples.com website the maxtor $30 rebate?

There is no staples rebate for this drive, is there?

We are talking about the Staples rebate forms. Both need original UPC from the box.

My bad, missed that. If you call a Staples CSR and explain that the Manufacturer needs the original for their promotion, They usually will allow a copy in that instance. This is what i did with the 80 gig deal that had both Maxtor and Staples Rebates. Just be sure to document the phone call and include a copy of the documentation with the Rebate form.
