This was mentioned earlier in this massive thread but I'll repeat for those who may have missed it.

Watch out if one of the rebates goes to Walled Lake, MI (Express Group). I've used rebates for about 50 items over the last year and my experience with the "Express Group" for a previous Office Depot/Maxtor hard drive deal was one of the very worst.

I got conflicting information on what needed to be sent for the rebate and the staff seemed generally clueless. Just to play it safe, I ended up sending the invoice in the box, the online invoice and a faxed invoice as mentioned below.

They eventually lost *any* record of my materials and I had to fax in copies of everything.

I did eventually get the $40 rebate but that was only after it became a matter of principle that they pay up.

So keep copies of *everything* and check on the status at some point.

I got one from a local OD store. I cannot find the rebate online (no image associated with the rebate message on top). I did get a rebate receipt with lines for personal info. Can I use this as a substitute for rebate form?

TIA,

I dunno if any of you were scheduled for delivery, and didnt receive your hard drive on time, but if that happens to you, you can call up and they will give you a 10% additional discount, bringing the cost down another $7 (they can only take the 10% off of the after coupon cost).

Well, that worked for me, they scheduled delivery on the 20th, but didnt get it to me until the 23rd.

Well, final cost is now $8.59 after tax for me now

On 8/20, a CSR at my local store back ordered the 40GB HD on 8/20 for me. I called today to check the status. The CSR said the drive has been discontinued and I wouldn?t be getting my 40 GB HD.

Looks like this deal is dead for me. Unless, I can get the local store to give me a bigger drive discounted to the amount of the rebates and coupon (out of stock at the local stores).

What are you supposed to use for a receipt? It only came with the drive and no invoice. You can go to "My Orders" and click on it and get a summary but it doesn't say what was ordered. Thanks

Call OD.com and tell them to fax/send you a copy of your receipt. The driver was supposed to give it to you when he delivered the order.

Just a reminder, as carmann already posted, Staples B&M and online have this drive for $90, with two $30 rebates, just like the OD deal. Add $10 worth of stuff and use the $20 off $100 coupon. There some small Bic items for FAR, or the bookcase as carmann posted. And best of all, Staples actually has it in stock, since everyone ate up the ones at OD. Mine's being delivered in the morning. $18 for a 40gb hard drive and a bunch of school supplies.

Did anyone come to a resolution that BOTH rebates require the ORIG UPC to be mailed in?

I left a message at Staples Customer Service but have not received a reply yet.

EDIT Anybody got a REAL email address for Staplesrebates.com Customer Service ?
I've been using the fill-in form on their website.

Call them - I did and everything was taken care of in real time over the phone.

If you were unable to get an answer online or through email, please contact a rebate customer service representative at 1-888-856-9210.

It said "or copy" on the OD rebate, so that's what they got. I think someone here or at Fatbillfold already got approval on this rebate using a copy. What other choice do you have anyway? You only have one UPC.
Did anyone get two rebates printed out at the register?
No. I got one and some got none. If you didn't get the OD rebate from the register, you'll need to print off the OD "Walled Lake, MI" receipt from here or Fatbillfold and send that one in instead.

If you're referring to getting both the OD and the Maxtor rebate (rebateshq) from the register, the answer is no. The only rebate printing from the register is the OD rebate and not the Maxtor rebate.
EDIT Anybody got a REAL email address for Staplesrebates.com Customer Service ?
Why are you discussing Staples here? This is the Maxtor 40 gb Office Depot thread, isn't it?

Salvador the OD rebates are over now if you did not purchase one (had to be by 8/24)

Staples seems to have the same deal going till the 31st but there is a conflict as to if you have to send in an original UPC or not for both places.

Does whoever called Staples and got confirmation that you could use a copy have the phone number?

And what exactly did you say/ask?

WOOOHOOO!!!!!

Order Number Order Date Total Delivery Date OK to Change Status Contact

XXXXXXXXXX-001 08/18/2002 $96.96 08/28/2002 No In The Warehouse X.X.XXXXXXX

Just spoke w/a CSR who put it in the notes to refund/rebill the order tomorrow after I receive the package's packing list, which will serve as the receipt. It's confirmed that the order date, not the received date, is what matters in regards to the rebate(s)!!! Sooooooo....after the $21+ refund back to my Visa, it looks like I'm getting a $15 drive too!

Express Group does suck, I called a total of 5 times over six months, and faxed info on two of the five rebates but they did eventually pay (they also double paid two of the five rebates) however, after six months, my middle finger is still raised in their direction....

Sorry.. I thought these were residual questions from the OD Maxtor deal. I didn't know that it has already morphed into a Staples thread.

Well, I gotta post the resolution to my story, because the deal I got is...

UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE!!!

First, the background: I called Office Depot last Monday, and the salesguy said he had 2 of the 40 gig drives in stock, so I asked him to put them on hold (for me & my friend Ashley). We go in there after work, and they aren't the right drives -- they're 5400 rpm instead of 7200. So I leave my name and number at the service desk, and they promise to call me when they get more in. I don't hear anything for days. On Thursday, I read a post in this thread by someone who says he picked up a drive from my local store on Tuesday. After PMing him for details, he says that they had 4 in stock when he bought his! So I'm pissed, and we go into OD again after work on Friday. There are no drives in stock, so we explain the situation to the manager. He tells us to come in next week, and he will give us the proper deal, and he will just eat the cost of the rebates and coupon (he even promised to accept the online $20 coupon!). So I left with him my stack of paper: two $30 rebates and a $20 coupon.

So, I called the store yesterday (Tuesday) morning, and a sales floor guy tells me they have 2 drives in stock, but the manager wasn't in yet. So I called in the afternoon to talk to the manager, and he checks their stock. The sales guy was wrong again -- he was referring to 5400 rpm drives. But the manager tells me to come in anyway after work, and he will hook us up with this 60-gig drive instead! So we go in after work, and the manager brings out the drives and takes us to the cash register. He rings up the first drive, and over-rides it to $59.99, preparing to then subtract the $20 coupon. I then inquire whether he is aware that there are two separate rebates for $30 dollars each. Judging by the shade of white that his face turned, I gather that he was unaware. It's not my fault -- I said it last week, and he had all the paperwork in his hands. He says, "So these drives are basically free?" And Ashley replies, without skipping a beat, "$9.99." After about 10 seconds of awkward silence, he starts printing the receipt, and says, "$9.99, that's $10.74 with tax."

After the receipt finishes printing, a rebate form prints out... there's a $20 rebate on the 60-gig drive this week! But he says, "I don't think I need to give you this." Fair enough... we can just print it out from the website.

A 60 GB drive, and we make $10 on the deal (after rebates)???

D*mn.

Dang Americans and your deals! If someone would like to buy 2 of them and ship them to my US postal box, I'll pay $30 shipped a piece. Even after I pay my 14% tax after crossing the border on that $60US my total cost will barely be over $100cdn for two drives. not bad. PM me if you want to make some extra money.

Yesterday the charge from OD finally showed up on my credit card account. To my surprise, even though I used the "credit limit" feature with the one-time-use card number, somehow OD was able to override the $76 limit I set, and still removed the $20 off $75 coupon and charged me $97. Needless to say, I called their CSR immediately and the nice lady I talked to said they would refund the $20.

But just a word of advice, even if you used the credit limit feature, always double check to make sure you're not overcharged. I don't know how OD did it because I thought if you try to charge more than the credit limit, it won't go through. Maybe if you're big enough like OD, the bank will give you a break?

Hey DeafeningSilence Great deal! I got same type of deal Monday. (posted earlier)
But basically I got 60 Gig for the $79 price - $60 rebates instantly so got drive for $19.99!!

But thanks to you mentioning the $20 rebate for the drive this week, I may end up getting it free!!! Not sure if I will be able to or not because of the way the recipt printed out (Scanned drive for $109 and then subtraced the $109 scan and then manually typed in $19.99 price). So it doesnt look like I bought it! But for price of stamp and photocopy sure is worth a try to get $20 back!!

Thanks!!

Funny...I received a call yesterday saying they wanted me to call to get permission to deliver. I tried to complete the sale; but they tried to charge another $20 to the backorder price. Wouldn't accept the online coupon, either. Told her to cancel it.
