I had placed an order aug 21 - on the 23rd it was removed from backorder and showed a delivery date of the 26th. The drive never arrived. I called OD and was told the warehouse would call back with status. No one called. I called back again and was told again the warehouse would call with status. Again, no one called. My order was changed to "customer deleted" status. I called to find out why and was told to go ro a retail store or call the mfg, I asked to speak with a mgr and again was told a mgr would call back. (guess what - no one called) I noticed the drive was listed as available online - I called and explained all of this to a supervisor "Carolyn" - She is sending the drive minus the 2 rebates - to my door for $14.56 - woohoo! Thought this could be helpfull to anyone who had an order cancelled -

Well surprise of all surprises... Mine arrived today, it is a Diamond MaxPlus 8 which is a Ultra ATA133 Liquid bearing drive. This is all to the good, unfortunately I won't be able to use the original OD rebate which needed to be postmarked by Sept. 7

The biggest reason this is such a surprise is that I was dealing with a manager via email and he told me that I would not be receiving the drive as they had run out and Maxtor was not making it anymore. So I cancelled the order over a week ago!! OD has sure srewed this whole thing up...

It will be interesting to see what he has to say Monday when I contact him about the lost rebate.

Well, keep checking yours. Mine showed up today as rejected because "the store you purchased this product from does not honor this particular promotion" That's a load of bull. I know someone who's rebate got approved. I'll have to get on the horn with them Monday.

I never went to any of the online rebate centers like RebateHQ or whatever to register my rebate. I just sent both rebates in the mail when I got the drive.
Can I still register online to check my status on rebates?

Here is what I found when I checked the status of my rebates.

From my Rebates HQ file:

Date Received: 09-11-2002
Status: Processing Rebate
Status Detail: Your rebate is valid and is in the final stages of processing and should be mailed to you within the next 30 days.

And from Express Group website:

$30.00 Qualified
Your rebate is being processed.
Description: Maxtor 40GB 7200 $30 Sku 368-121 8/11-8/24/02

So I would think it should all work out fine as long as you followed the rules and of course kept copies of everything!

I didn't register for either rebate online, but both are showing up. I also received notifications to the email addresses I supplied that the rebates had been accepted. If yours are not showing up online, you may want to call.

Ok thanks. After checking out both sites, mine say they are being processed and have been qualified. So the only thing to do now is wait, wait, wait for the rebate to be mailed to me.

RebatesHQ.com sent me a postcard rejecting by Maxtor mfg'rs rebate, claiming that I sent in the wrong UPC barcode.

I went back to the OD store where I picked up the drive and claimed that I had done everything correctly. The store manager got on the phone and got them to ok the rebate. In doing so, he mentioned that the 40GB, 7200 drive I bought was the only one they ever carried from Maxtor.

Now I wait for 4-6 weeks for the check to come. Manager said it was ok to come back after 6 weeks and get the $30 from OD directly, if nothing comes in the mail. I'm gonna play this one straight, but I can't help but notice that 6 seeks is ust in time for Halloween!!!!

What doesn't make any sense is that the drive I got was model MX6L040J2, but the second page of the rebate form was good for model L01J040G. Not that I could have known that before I tore into the box (model no. not on outside of the box, not on receipt, and not on website). I sent the rebate in, since that was what everyone else was doing. No idea what the difference in the model numbers mean. Sounds like a FUBAR, since OD did not carry the other drive.

What I did learn in passing, was that the store manager told me that whenever I go into an automated phone system (which I tried with RebatesHQ, to no avail), is that if you want to speak with a real CSR, ignore the instructions to punch 1,2,3, or whatever, and just keep punching 0's and you'll get to a real person to speak to you.

I still have nothing on the RebatesHQ site. I called this afternoon and talked to a guy that says it has been taking around 2-3 weeks for them to arrive. However, if it does not show up by Friday he said to call back. I know for sure that I sent it to the correct address, heck, next time I will send it FedEx express instead of depending on the PO. :disgust:

Anyone know what happens if it doesn't show, I sent the original UPC in, would they accept a copy if I had to resend?

The one for express group showed up online back in early september.

The one for RebatesHQ still didn't show up online today. So I checked my certified mail reciept and it showed it was delivered in MIAMI FLORIDA. It was suppost to go to MCALLEN TEXAS. AHH!!!

I called USPS and they say certified is not guaranteed. They opened a case number, blah blah blah, but I'm pretty much screwed out of my rebate.

EDIT: Called RebatesHQ. They are going to let me resubmit it. WHOOO HOO!

I'm just repeating what I read in another Hot Deals thread, but it appears that one of the major rebate-processing centers, has moved from TX to FL. Most likely, your rebate was actually delivered correctly, forwarded to the new address. There was some confusion over another rebate deal here, as there were two rebate forms printed, one with the TX address, and one with the FL address, but the same "Dept #", etc., and turned out to be the same rebate, except that some of the forms got printed with their old address, and some with their new address.

Talk (or write) directly to the local postmaster where you mailed it. {If you haven't already....}

I thought I was screwed out of a Peachtree Accounting rebate two (?) years ago because the clerk put the wrong postage on my certified mail. By the time it was returned for postage, it was past the postmark requirement of the rebate. Wrote to the local postmaster and sent copies of docs. She cut me a check for the $50. Her accompanying letter included all of the "...this is not normal policy..." and "...we're not generally responsible for this type..." blah blah blah legal verbage. Received my money, though.

Seems like whoever processes the regular claims is a heartless B@st@rd; but our postmaster turned out to be a warm-blooded human.

Well I got on the phone with a CSR today from OD and explained the whole situation about receiving the hdd to late to send in for the OD rebate and so she went ahead and credited my CC the $30.00!!

So now all I have to do is wait and see if my other rebate is ok'd.

WOW!

That's some customer service for ya! I wonder if that's a running policy? If so, this makes the deal REALLY REALLY hot for those who got their drives late...

I posted this in the reabte tracking thread, but thought I would post here also- it appears some are getting OD & RebatesHQ rebates. I got a postcard from RebatesHQ stating:
You have already submitted the maximum number of rebate claims per household, OR the information that should have been unique to your claim (Serial Number, Transaction Number, etc) matches the unique information from another claim.

I bought the drive online from the OD website. When I check online, the OD rebate (mailed to Walled Lake MI) is a go, and this one (mailed to McAllen, TX) is not.

Has anyone else gotten this? :|
