FYI: Cingular on the east coast uses TDMA. I am a ATT employee on the west coast, currently using a 3360 that is badged as Cingular. Says Cingular on it when I power it up and everything. So, for you east coast Cingular users, YES, you can use this phone.

I bought two phones in Fort Worth. There was no big hassle about activation but I was required to give my name and address. They explained that AT&T will pay them if I eventually activate.

I have heard that the ATT phones are Locked, but have never seen one that had such a problem or knew anyone that had the problem. So it could all be heresay.

What do the Best Buy people say when you point out that the ad says nothing about requiring activation and in fact says that activation is only required for purchases of 3 or more phones?

Checked out my local BB, the salesperson said that he could not sell the nokia at $24.99 without a two year contract and activation.

2 bestbuys I went to today were out of stock.

One said more will come friday morning, the other said on saturday morning.

But thinking about it, this phone sucks! 120 minutes talk time battery???

Both best buys had T68i for $150 before any possible avaiable rebates, and they would sell their phones without activation.

This was in Skokie, IL (Touhy Ave and Skokie Blvd stores).

I called 4 nearby Best Buy stores. Three said that they don't require activations, of those three only one had the phones in stock. The fourth one had them in stock but required activation on premises. So I went to one that had the phones and didn't require activation (which just had to be the furthest one away from me, but I'm not complaining). I'm going to activate my existing plan on this new phone.

One thing I noticed was that my old 8260 is slightly smaller and lighter, I think it also looks and feels better than the new one. The one really nice thing about the new one is the electroluminescent backlighting on the 8265. I still like the 8260 better overall, but my 8260 is getting old and I guess I can keep it around as a backup if I ever lose my 8265. The ideal combo would be the 8260 with the 8265's backlighting, but I'll take what I can get. It sucks that they had to make the 8260's replacment bigger and heavier instead of smaller and lighter.

I scored one - no activation required. For $25, this is a nice upgrade from my Nokia 5165.

I have been checking all of the Best Buys in the Pittsburgh area over the last few days - it seems like they are getting them in stock again. Although, they will probably go fast. Quote from the Best Buy dude, when I called for availability - "We just got three in - you better hurry!" This was the South Hills - Village Square store.

Last night, went to a couple Best Buys around Northern Chicago and surround 'burbs and both were OOS and said they might get some tonight. Also called about 6 stores just now and all were OOS. I'll guess I'll have to call around tonight or tomorrow to hunt one of these. My current 8260 is basically dead and desperately need this as a replacement. Argh!

Woohoo! Got one, my brother lives in the South 'burbs and they had two left at the Orland Park store, one left now. He probably should've got both, but hopefully another TATer picks up the last one. He said there was no display model for the AT&T version, he had to ask for it, and they had it behind the counter.
