I've called two more Best Buy's and both would not let the phone go without activation. It didn't sound like the CSR's knew what they were talking about, though. Looks like some will be lucky and others won't on this deal.

I was think about getting one to replace my 5165 but I found out the 8265 doesn't do E-mail.

By the way, the 5165 with 3 months free-2-go prepaid is $30 after rebate at Amazon.

Hmm.. this page says it does. I was able to receive an email from my hotmail account though, although only the subject was received. And I just sent and email back to the account and all worked fine, hotmail received the subject and the message.

Hmmm... there seems to be some contradictory info at the Nokia wete about whether it will do E-mail.

This page says it won't work. If it worked for you though that pretty much settles it.

I think it does support email.... my 8260 does... and accessories should work with 8265 also... if i'm not mistaken the 8265 even has infrared? not positive... but thought i've seen it on there

The headset will not (it comes with one though) but everything else like the car charger and batteries are the same.

I'm not sure why you guys are having problems with the bb's you are going to, I guess you are just getting the jerks. I don't know of any work around, especially if you tried to point out what the ad says

I just stopped by a BestBuy and the manager said that I can't buy it without activation. I told him that I already have AT&T service (which I do) but he still said no.

I pointed out to him that he is incorrect because other stores are selling it without activation. He said that's because the other's salesperson/cashiers are not correctly informed. He will contact his regional manager tonight so all the Bestbuy will follow the correct rules. What a a-hole.

The 8200 series is really just ment for those who need a small phone. My job requires me to carry it around and when I had my 5160 I would leave it eveywhere, now I just put it in my pants or shirt pocket.

Nokia site also says that 8265 has "Wireless Internet (WAP 1.2.1)" so what can one do with this feature on ATTWS TDMA service?

The Wireless Internet was for pocketnet which AT&T has since canceld but for those that still have it they would be able to use it with this phone.
If you are interested in internet browsing then you might want to wait or if it's available in your area, get a GSM/GPRS phone. GSM/GPRS will allow internet capabilities on your GSM/GPRS compatible phone.

My BB ad shows all phones 50.01 and up being 50-125 off except for a few phones. My local BB ad also has Cingular phones that it sells, so I could get the Motorola V60t/V60g for $49.99 after $150 in rebates. It says nothing about activation. I currently have the Nokia 3360, I wonder how the reception/audio clarity compares between the two.

All Austin Best Buys are out of stock and will not let you buy it without activation. Since in the Austin Ad it states "2-Year Contract" required or something to get the "$125 instant savings".

Seems like from the ad you can get away without activating it, especially if you're already on ATT, however you probably have to sign another contract with them for 2 years. Not that bad, but not that great either. Though you do have to watch out for that extra note about "other restrictions may apply".
