hey i just bought from them the Apacer USB 2.0 6 in 1 Embedded Card Reader for $28 with free Fedex Shipping. I've read on this forum about them... so i thought i give them a try. I also bought the Apacer USB 2.0 128MB from them as well. you guys might want to check it out...
NEWEGG SPECIAL!

my overall impression of the apacer embedded card reader 2.0 is fast! and most of all, easy to install, no setup problems on win2K. also, tested my 2.0 handy drive on the front usb slot of the card reader. it works great as well. overall satification from newegg... 10 out of 10.

Where do you plug such a beast in? It looks cool, sounds like an idea I'd like to try but where do I plug it in?

My digicam could certainly use such a beast. At least then I won't have to recharge it when I want my images back.

Hmmm it appears I spoke too soon. I plug it into the internal header for my usb ports right? Do I lose the rest of my usb ports? I have 4 now.. Can I just use the header that is used on two of them?

This is a sweet deal for the sheer fact that it comes with both a black and beige faceplate. (or so the images lead me to believe.)

Yeah, decent deal. And I doubt Newegg needs to advertise here. Most of us ATers know about them anyhow.

Yep, it takes 2 headers, but gives one back. Its really an excellent unit with a very sturdy build quality to it. 2 quality LEDs that indicate power and access along with an eject button for CF. Drivers installed without a hitch and each drive has the media icon in "my computer" like any other drive. Best $30 I've spent in a while on a non-essential toy, and should free up much more than the single USB port you lose. No more going through your peripherals and kludgy software to copy and delete files from removable media, and no external powersource or large profile and cumbersome cord like some of the external readers.

I bought one of these with USB 2.0 from AJUMP store for $ 29 shipped based in a previous Post
Since I don't have headers available on the mobo in my Dimension 4550 .I purchase a SOYO Pci Card and plug the 2 plugs in the Pins on the card.Be sure of connect the Power (red) on Pin number 1 or You will fry the Reader or worse the MOBO.
The Black Faceplate matches perfectly my 4550.
SOYO PCI USB 2.0 Interface Card
Word of advise : Install drivers BEFORE installing the Physical Drive. This procedure creates the Icons for the different types of Flash Memory Used.
IT works like a charm with my SMART MEDIA card I have not tried others Types of Memory.
It really helps to have "built on" the computer since You don't have to be looking all over the place for the reader( I work with a lot a papers on my desk) and is always on.
Now is somebody interested in buying a SANDISK for Smartmedia?

one quick question, i have usb 1.1 header (open) on my MB, does it work w/ this one, since this is usb 2

is usb 1.1 and usb 2 forward/backward compatible? just that you'll get the high speed if both are usb2?

Should be fine, the USB 2.0 controller is in the chipset (southbridge), the cabling and reader just passthrough data (there's no moving parts on the reader, its all digital) and USB 2.0 and 1.1 use the same voltage and pin alignment.
