Students at the University of Maryland Baltimore County get a special discount on Microsoft Software.

MS Windows 2000 Pro Upgrade $14.95
MS Windows 98 Refresh 2nd Edition Upgrade $9.95
MS Office 2001 for Macintosh $9.95
MS Windows XP Pro (Operating System) $14.95
MS Office Mac OS X $9.95
MS Visual Studio.Net Pro 2003 $29.95
MS Office 2003 Pro (Word. Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher) $9.95

The thing that really catches my eye is the Office 2003 Pro at the bottom for $9.95, that is a ridiculously good deal, but I guess it balances out when you factor in how much they charge for tuition. Anyways I didn't just put this deal up here to taunt anyone who doesn't go to UMBC, many schools now have deals worked out with Microsoft so that they could sell software to students at huge discounts. Even my high school gave out free copies of Office and Visual Studio to anyone who took a computer course. Just wanted to let you guys know to check your schools bookstore see if they have something like this worked out and if they don't maybe you should suggest it.

Heh, me too. Of course, I see you go to Cal Poly also. I was lucky and I bought a copy of Office last year at the old price. Anyway, the only for sure way to know if your school has a special deal with Microsoft, go to your bookstore and find someone at the tech desk. They'll put the more expensive boxed version on display and have the cheaper disks only stuff behind the desk.

Heh, where I go it's cheaper to buy it from educational software sites than from the school. We do get Norton Antivirus for free though.

We used to have good price on M$ products too, but now they ended the contract, worse still, they said that previously bought products need to get a lisence in order to be used legally... wtf?

Not true, unless the software your school was giving you was not licensed and not registered anyway (which means the school could be easily sued). If it was registered when it was given to you, then you're fine. Unless ofcourse the school gave out say 1000 copies and Microsoft was only expecting them to give out 200 and they want to get paid for the rest, even then though the software is legit, it would be just that M$ wants money from the school.

Who knows...I wouldn't worry about it, just use it...

Minidanas - What does that mean?

I kinda thought that went without saying

My g/f goes to UTA. 7$ for Windows XP. It would be great to be legit but anyone know what this note means exactly?

---------------------
PLEASE NOTE: Students graduating during the term of the CA agreement 9/1/02-8/31/05 will be issued a permanent license for products they have purchased. The license(s) will be issued upon graduation. Students who transfer or otherwise leave the university before graduation will *not* be permanently licensed for any MS CEA products.
---------------------

This is her last year there and she's not graduating... Does this mean that they supply a list of revoked licenses to M$ at the end of the school year or something? Does this mean that after she leaves the school my Office XP will stop working? Or does it just mean it will work, but not legally.

Damn that is cheap! My mom works at Northeastern University...I've seen them in the bookstore (seperately owned) sell student edition MS software but it usually costs like 10-20 dollars less than retail. Is there a special place she should ask about this from the school directly?

actually those prices are just for the CD, your school is paying MS for the licenses. My schools departments bought the ms license program but it wasnt offered to the students. We had to buy the software for $100 for XP and $200 for office i think. but if your school is buying the licenses for you, good for you.

I disagree! Having this site in hand can be used when trying to get the powers that be at a particular school to do the same.
