I thought this was hot enough for a new thread....

I saw this thread Here and went down to Office Max...I didn't see the 300i no display or anything so I asked if they had it they did....I took it to the register with my printed in store special list so see what would happen. It rang up as 299.99 with a 100.00 off so 199.99 and I asked about the rebate. The sales person could not find it in the flyer so she went to her manager....He told her to just take another 50.00 off the price. So for 149.99 you walk out the door with this drive.

I've looked on Office Max's site, HP's site and could not find this rebate. Also when you look at the stores special site I replace the city and state with my own and it showed up as In Store Special For CITY, STATE

HP DVD300i 4X DVD+RW/R drive (#20318513)(sku 808736487115) $299.99- $100 IR - $50 MIR (They don't have it so the manager should just take it off the final price) = $149.99 at OfficeMax (Starts Sun 2-16)

The HP DVD 200i and HP DVD 300i is not currently on-line, but they are listed in the ad In Stores Special Printable Ad Page

I only saw the HP200i for 349 in the ad. No mention of the 300I (what's the difference between the 2 versions?). So it SHOULD be 249 out the door.. so YMMV.. I'll call up the store to see if they have it in stock.

The 300i is a 4x drive. I'm not sure why it's not advertised but if you click on the link for the Advertised Specials it shows it as a 100 Instant Rebate and 50 MIR but the MIR is no where to be found so they should take 150 off at the register.

Just got back from OM and I got the drive for 200. It actually rang up that price. However, he didn't give me the MIR right there BUT he told me to email the rebate company with the page that claims to have a $50 MIR and explain the whole thing. He said it should go through no problem. He did comment on how this was a CHEAP price. Even if I don't get the MIR it is still a good deal in my opinion. I really wanted a 4x DVD+ drive for a while now...especially since it looks like DVD- are starting to fade out.

thanks erikatcuse for the B&M deal/idea and thanks to the MysticMan1(original post)

I too just snagged the DVD300i for $199.99 in-store at OfficeMax. However the manager wouldn't give me an instant $50 rebate. He also stated that the $50 HP mail-in rebate would NOT be honored. He specifically stated that this was a cash-and-carry substitution for the DVD200i.

YMMV.

that manager is on crack cuz it shows right there in erik's link that there's a 50 dollar rebate on the 300i.

Well, I showed the manager that page (an "in-store specials" page for HIS specific store) that clearly showed that a $50 mail-in rebate applied to the DVD300i. He responded that he would not give me a $50 instant rebate. He also responded that the HP mail-in rebate doesn't apply to the DVD300i.

I can't find a $50 mail-in rebate form for the DVD300i. Does one exist?

Am I likely to get a $50 rebate if I call OfficeMax at their 800 number and explain my situation? Can the folks at the 800 number override the local store manager?

This is almost as hot as when I got my HP DVD200i a few months ago for $80.00 from circuit city.

I think it's time to upgrade

Actually it's not. There is an entry for a "Hewlett-Packard HP DVD 3001 DVD-Writer " which is not the same as a "Hewlett-Packard 300i DVD+RW Drive". I suspect this is a mistake. I have a copy of the OM rebate directory (1/26/03-3/1/03) and there is no mention of a rebate on the 300i. You may get a $50 allowance, as erikatcuse did, if you insist that the 300i should be treated as a direct substitution for the 200i, but YMMV. You might also try using an OD/Staples printable coupon, but yet again YMMV. The 300i for $199 is still a good deal.

Thanks, erikatcuse!

Please Note: Some mail-in rebates may not be available in advance for Sneak Preview customers

That is what it says on the printable offer page. So the rebate should show up soon.

Maybe it will show up on Tues or Wed...after the long holiday weekend. Only thing I don't understand is it wasn't in the big officemax rebate brochure.

I'm not sure if it helped but I got the drive and went straight to the check out line and asked the cashier to price check for me. After that I asked about the mail in rebate and she actually went to the manager and talked to him, I never did...If there going to offer a special and can't produce the rebate that doesn't seem right.

Hey, isn't there a $50 of $250 officemax coupon floating around? Why not add $50 in "free" merchandise while you're buying this drive...

Just talked with OM for about 30 min. The CSR had to call someone else and the 300i is authorized to use the 200i rebate!!!

Now this is a HOT DEAL...the CSR just told me to keep copies of everything

If you read the ad closely 2015-8784(200i)/2031-8513(300i) is listed in the ad but the 200i is named because ofcourse they want to clear out the 200i first.

I don't think they pulled them from the shelves. They just have not put them on the shelves yet.

I spent about 40 mins at OM today trying to get this squared away. The asst mgr called somebody (not sure if it was another store or some regional hq) and she was told that the 200i rebate would be honored. I spent more time there trying to get some assurances since the HP rebate form clearly states that it is for the 200i/200e and no substitutions are allowed. While still at the store, I called the number on the back of the rebate and they confirmed that it was only for the 200i and that the 300i would not be honored. I told this to the asst mgr and she called her contact again and they decided that they'd have to talk to corporate hq about this. They will supposedly get back to me some time this week.

I would NOT count on the 200i rebate being honored for the 300i.

Agreed. I checked out a couple of officemax stores here in Sacramento, they all have it in the back. The instant $100 is valid.
Here is an idea though, can we try to PM it from Staples? Staples.com just listed it on the site for $299 and some of local staples
actually have the 300i in stock. Maybe I'll try to bring in OMax's printed ad and see what Staples can do. By the way, are there any ways
to use the $40 of $200 code in a local Staple's store?

The problem with that is to prove that the SKU of 2031-8513 is actually a 300i drive, there's no way to do that online since they don't sell it online. Maybe they could call with that SKU to PM and then we could use a $40 off $200. The other thing is to wait for OM to get it in stock and try to use a competitor's coupon if OM even does that and if they can verify the coupon codes somehow. I'd really like to get a 300i for $149 but it seems that you have to be really lucky to actually get in on that deal (walk out of the store with $150 price - I don't trust a rebate that specifically doesn't have 300i written on it).

In recent dealings with Dell computers I learned one important thing, CSR's will say *anything* in order to get rid of a difficult customer/order. OM people too will tell you that you'll get the $50 rebate if they think that telling you that will get shot of you. Let's face it, it'll be a long time before you realise that it didn't work. To put it plain and simple, I guarantee you that the $50 200i rebate will not work for a 300i purchase. I put my AnandTech reputation on it! (Eh, what reputation? ... Sssshhhhh!).

For those that got the drive for $200 + tax, be happy. That's a hell of a deal! Don't let your greed spoil it because you think somebody somewhere got an extra $50 off. This drive was released only last month and is a state-of-the-art DVD writer... for 200 bucks? BOOYAAH!! (whatever that means!).

There is a way to use the code in the store, but you will have to post your question in my original thread for this deal not in this REPOST of a deal I posted last Wednesday. Link to original post
