This is incredibly hot if you need this processor.

A PIII 600Mhz/512kb/100Mhz FSB slot processor for $94.

CompGeeks has this processor for $104 here.
Take 10% off with the well-known Master Card coupon,
and you're down to $94. Note that these are system pulls.

Why is this such a hot deal? If you need to ask, then
you probably don't need this processor. But a LOT of
motherboards, including a lot of high end server motherboards,
only support processors up through PIII 600Mhz KATMAI
(512kb cache). Relatively few 600Mhz Katmai processors
were made, and they generally sell for $140-160 each.
To find them this cheap is amazing...If you have a
Katmai limited motherboard, this is your chance
to max out the cpu power at a good price.

If you can't see why anyone would want a PIII 600Mhz
Katmai at this price, then this thread is not for you.
Go back to using your VIAcrap or SiScrap platform
with a cheap AMD processor. But a dual server based
on a couple of PIII 600s is still mighty fine for a lot
of purposes...

asus p2b-d is a good dual slot 1 motherboard.

The Intel N440BX is a nice dual processor server motherboard
(on board SCSI) that is limited to PIII 600Mhz Katmais.

There's no point in using PIII Katmais in a board that will
support higher. But something like the N440BX is a very expensive
motherboard that can be had for a good price now because 600Mhz
Katmai is the top end...

Can you OC that Nightshade mobo? Or these processors? I'd guess not since it's an Intel board.

In answer to all your questions:

Can the niteshade be OC: No, it doesn't support that function.


Do the regular p3' 600 work well with MP: yes they work fine..these have an added bonus of 256kb of cache.

Can you OC these CPU's: yes but why would you want to? These are server grade chips, you don't OC these. YOu let them run just the way they are...

This is the best processor for ANY motherboard for which the
following two items are true:

1) It supports Katmai processors, and doesn't support Coppermine
processors. That is, it supports the PIII /512kb cache processors
but not ANY of the PIIII /256kb cache processors.

2) You don't plan to overclock. The PIII 600/512/100 processor
is a TERRIBLE overclocker. Good luck getting ANY overclocking
to work with this chip.

As I mentioned, this is a great chip for a server class motherboard,
particularly a nice old dual processor motherboard like the
Niteshade...

2) I have an Intel SR440BX system. This CPU will work in this motherboard, right?

3) Will the heatsink from my current PIII 450 work on the 600?
