I got a red PCB AGOIA, and it looks to be the "Y" stepping. Please lmk if you guys can help me figure it out :

AX1600DMT3C
AGOIA 0213SPRW
Y8046680107

Anyone know if this is indeed a "Y" stepping? Also, my brother received his and he got an AROIA core, which I know is newer, my question is does it have the same OC potential as the older AGOIA cores? Please help me out here experts.

Kenny, dunno about the stepping, but your agoia looks to be week 13 of 2002 (0213)
\geek on\ as for AROIA, look here (www.overclockers.com) for some results posted as to OC results w/ different steppings. AROIA seems about the same as AGOIA (flame on) \geek off\
peace

Just an FYI, motherboard, or chipset, seems to make a big difference (I know this is no news to some of you). My AROIA XP1600 would only run 148 fsb stable(the same as the first gen. AGKGA XP1600 I swapped it out for) regardless of voltage or cooling on my Gigabyte GA7VTXE KT266A board. I changed boards to the ASUS A7V333 and now running 170 fsb (1785mhz) just fine.

Well my XP1600+ that I received yesterday had a very quick two hour session in my KT7A last nite at standard speed.

I then went out to Walmart and bought one wallpaper knife 87c and on twin-pack of super glue 99c.

Stopped off at Autozone to get a defogger kit - 9.99!!! A bit OTT if u ask me!
It was a useless pen type - would not recommend this at all.
I was there for around 15mins to get the tiniest drop to come out - will be taking it back tonight!

Well anyway - I eventually got the CPU unlocked - it was a lot more work than I expected - especially after being used to the old Pencil trick for the last few years

To cut a very long story of re-boots and no-posts later I eventually got myself up and running at XP2000+ speeds with 1.775v

If only I could get a higher multiplier with the KT7A I'd be happier - Currently using 12.5 x 133FSB

I'll try using 140FSB later this evening

Uhmmm....not that I am aware of

Kinda Brownish board and greenish/blueish core I think?

In fact I'm not really too sure what colour the core was now - the pic I took of it last night looks pretty crap really - can't tell from it - too much thermal paste to see clearly enough

I'm not prejudiced though - I really don't mind what colour my CPU is - as long as I can flog it overclocked all day and night

You gotta be kidding me! I just received and installed my 1600+ today (AGOIA "Y" stepping), cranked it up to 166 at default voltage and let her rip. It booted, loaded Win XP, ran 2 loops of 3DMark2001SE, SETI for an hour and was 100% stable! 1743 for $52 shipped? What a deal!

Does anyone know of a better cooler than the SK6? It was running a bit hotter than I like. Thanks.

Just unlocked my cpu and ran it at 11x166 = 1826 mhz at 1.825v, It goes higher, but wont budge unless I crank the voltage up to 1.9 volts.

BTW AROIA core on a fop-38 that I got from SVC for $4.25. I'm planning on getting a better cooler.
